You're the third or 4th person to say something like that . . .what's with you anti-kids people?
If you don't have kids, who are you going to read the LotR to - - one of the great joys of life is reading the whole thing to somebody.

My brother's children
I'm a horribly self-centered person, so I'd be a awful mother, and I don't want all that responsibility. Well, I'll be responsible about something else.

Well, if we're just going on sound alone (since I can't be bothered to look up the meanings of any of these names because I am lazy and D*MN proud of it), I've always liked (for girls) Nessa, or Luthien, and I LOVE Varda (don't know why...). Though, if we're going on meaning, I like Nenwen (Roughly 'Water Maiden') and Loslom (I'm guessing, from my Sil Appendix, roughly 'Snow Echo'? Please correct me with the proper meaning if I'm wrong). But, if I ever DID have kids (which I won't, the world's overpopulated as it is), I would like a girl to name Zephyr (synonomous with 'light wind' in English; the name of the West Wind in Angient Greek Mythology). I don't know why...

I named my computer Boromir because it is good... most of the time. The other times it's just plain RUINATION!!!!!

THEORETICAL names (I've sworn off guys):

Girls: Celebrian, Undomiel, Eowyn, Ioreth, Luthien, Marigold

Boys: Anarion, Beren, Damrod, Duinhir, Elladan

Dogs: Nali, Faramir, Rumil, Frea, Targon, Theodred, Valandil, Vorondil, Grond

Cats: Beruthiel (for obvious reasons), Tinuviel, Mauhur, Telchar, Thorin, Thranduil

Horses: Arod, Hasufel, Firefoot, Roheryn, Shadowfax, Stybba (for the pony), Snowmane, Telcontar

Birds: Landroval, Gwaihir, Bregalad, Thorondor, Thengel, Turin, Windfola, Algarend, Anor

Snakes: Smaug, Nimrodel (for a particularly good looking snake), Scatha, Tharkun, Thrain, Thror, Ufthak

(Yes, I do intend to have those pets.)

The list goes ever on and on,
Down the road from where it began...

Well, hullo everyone. As you can see, I don't hang out here muchly anymore. There's a good reason for this. Y'see, I've been hanging out at a different chatboard called Cardboardia. So far, I've been havin' a blast. Not that I don't love the TLA, but the magic of Entmoot is lost on me. So, as soon as TLA ends, so will my existance here, probably.

Who knows though? I might stay. Highly unlikely however. This is a good bye in advance, then. Unless you want to join me and my group of friends at Cardboardia.

Cheers!

And as for a boys name...hmmm...I like...lots of things from Rohan: Eomer, Elfhelm, Hama...
'Snow Echo'...still love that meaning.
Hmm. I named my computer Bob. How boring.
*Sticks a new name tag on Bob the Computer* Thou art now...STRIDER! Or Estel. Or Elessar. Of Wingfoot. Or Aragorn. Or whatever. And I shalt call the printer...Beren! And the monitor is now...Eowyn! And the scanner is...Luthien! And Arwen is excluded because I don't like her!

My cat is named Zephyr; the pound named him, not me. It's a good name, [possibly wasted on a cat, but he's a good cat.)

Whether the world is overpopulated is a controversial subject, not agreed on even by the Wise -- do not believe everything you read.

You could adopt them. Don't eliminate possibilities until you get there.

It is overpopulated. But I shouldn't be getting in to such a debate here, for fear of going horribly off-topic.

I second that. Look at the extinctions we are causing. Look at the pollution. It's not just something we anti-kid people make up you know! And why is it that whenever we speak up about not wanting kids that we are patronised and told that we don't know what we're talking about? And why are we called selfish for not wanting kids? How is it selfish to not produce another carbon unit to add pollution to the world? Look around. Look at all the refugees and orphanages. Something is deeply wrong with our society if we're actively encouraged to ignore the parent-less kids out there, and produce our own brats. If I ever have kids - and I don't plan on it - I'm definately adopting a refugee!

Well spoken! I was, as usual, too lazy to make such an argument. . .but what you say is very true. I, too, if I ever were to decide to raise a child, would adopt a kid who would needs a home. And maybe burden said child with the name of a fictional character

Thanks! [Puts away soap box.]

And yeah, I think I'd burden it with nice name as well. But I don't think I'd go for existing characters. My friend is fluent in Quenya, and I'd just get her to come up with some cool name which has significant meaning for me.

It was an excellent speech

Well, if I were to use an existing character's name, it would be one of the less well-known ones. And as much as I would like to name a hypothetical, adopted, child "Vingilot," I think they would most likely kill me for it

I'd like to have kids too whom I'd name after orcs. They'd sell well on the market whent they turn into full grown goats.

Shall we add 'King of puns' to your title?

No, but you can imagine it.

It makes it easier to sell kids/goats with names you can despise.

BoP: Oh, get back on that soapbox! You deserve it! *claps* Well said. I also am just too lazy to make such a great argument. Though it is fun to watch my grandmother sputter and say 'But what about my great-grandchildren?!" (As I am the Eldest grandchild in my stereotypical white family of Boring Traditional Values, and so everyone looks at me like I've grown an extra head when I say I don't want kids and instead want to be an artist, and then they immediatly try to make me change my mind...it gets a little boring).
I'd sell my kids...err...goats...if I had to
