Yeah, it was great. One of the best moments of the games so far for me. Those two Russians (apparently) loathe each other. The winner (Isinbayeva) was on the verge of losing. She failed at one height, so raised the bar, failed the new height, then won it by equalling the world record. She then went on to set a new best jump.

The Olympic committee is thinking about canning women's softball--The U.S. team has always extremely dominated that sport; hardly any other countries take it seriously/are interested in it.

What struck me most was her apparent lack of concentration in her final world record jump. She should have attempted another one, IMO.

That does not surprise me. At least in Spain, nobody knows what's Softball about...

Is it a sort of Baseball for women?

Congrats to Katleen Smet for getting 4th in the women's triatlon!

And many congrats to Kim Gevaert on her 6th place in the 200m finale, first Belgian ever to get in a sprinting finale if I'm not mistaken! Woohoo! A pity that she had to run in lane 1, she had the overall 4th best time in the semifinales and she ran a new Belgian record.

Basicly--
From the dictionary: A game closely resembling baseball that is played on a smaller diamond and with a ball that is larger and softer.

Congrats to FM and Spain on winning the silver in the men's beach volleyball! Too bad you didn't get the gold. I was cheering on you, but the Brazilians played awfully well.
Beach volleyball hasn't been an Olympic sport for that long. I think they introduced it in Atlanta 1996. That year and 2000 in Sydney, the US won. But this time it was Brazil's turn to win. Beach volleyball is a very big sport there, you can see people play it on every Brazilian beach.

Today Sweden had a chance to get a gold and a bronze medal in men's wrestling. We ended up winning a silver medal; Ara Abrahamian lost to the Russian Alexei Misjin in the final.

Sweden also got a bronze medal in equestrian - team jumping. Sweden and the US were fighting hard over the silver medal but eventually the Swedish team decided to skip their last attempt to beat the Americans - they didn't want to push too much strain on their horse, they feared it could get hurt. But the team said they were happy with the bronze

Our hope in the men's pole vault - Patrik Kristiansson (who happens to be the boyfriend of Carolina Klüft who won the gold in women's heptathlon ) didn't qualify for the finals.

Softball bowls different as well - underarm as opposed to overarm, IIRC.

Hey, is Rugby in the Olympics? Is Soccer? I know they're obviously sports, but I haven't heard of these events.
