That was not difficult. How about this one ? :

What were the names of the great-grandsons of Castamir, who led the Corsairs of Umbar and slew King Minardil at Pelargir?

Yes, Gordis, the question is difficult. Were they Angamaitë and Sangahyando?

Correct, Udu!

I love the names, pure Quenia, aren't they? Angamaite meand "iron-hand", but I have forgotten what the other one means.

Your turn, Udu!

I looked the name elements up in a Quenya dictionary and I came up with "Sangwe - Poison" and "Hyando - Cleaver" for Sangahyando. I am not the best at translating Quenya, though.

I knew I read the translation somewhere, and I have found it, in the "Letters".

Quote:
2. Q[uenya] names of Kings, etc. Q. was known to the learned in Gondor at least as well as Latin still is in W. Europe. [...] Angamaitë 'Iron-handed', and Sangahyando 'Throng-cleaver', were good Q. but no more so than the other names, and there was no need to assert their royal descent, as that was clear. They were, however, possibly 'aggressive' in being personal warrior names (or nicknames), whereas the other (few) warlike Q. names, like Rómendacil, were 'political': assumed by a king in celebration of victories against a public enemy.- Letter #347
So, your translation seems 50% right, Udu.

So, your next question.

Gordis, so much for the online Quenya translator. *grins*

Here is an easy question and has probably been asked many times before.

Name the four heirlooms of the Kings that were kept at Rivendell.

Scepter of Annuminas, shards of Narsil, Elendilmir and...?

Perhaps the Ring of Barahir? Before Aragorn took it and gave to Arwen?

Thanks, Udu.

Next question:
Where did the encounter between Earnur, the Witch-King and Glorfindel take place?

To be exact, I guess, "...there was a great battle on the plain between Nenuial and the North Downs."

Sorry but no, Udu!

There was the battle of Fornost between Nenuial and the North Downs.

But the actual setting of the encounter and the prophesy was someplace else .

Gordis, it is a little difficult to pinpoint an exact spot on this description. "Then the Witch-king, with all that he could gather from the wreck, fled northwards, seeking his own land of Angmar. Before he could gain the shelter of Carn Dum the cavalry of Gondor overtook him with Earnur riding at their head. At the same time a force under Glorfindel the Elf-lord came up out of Rivendell." Then comes the confrontation between the Witch-king and Earnur, then between the Witch-king and Glorfindel. I guess northeast of Fornost.

It is exactly this passage that I meant.

Interesting, I always understood it that the final destruction of the Angmarian army took place far from Fornost, somewhere in Angmar itself, just short of Carn Dum, or in North-Eastern Arthedain , near the border with Angmar.

Why? I guess that's because "Glorfindel the Elf-lord came up out of Rivendell". I thought it meant came North from the South, not North-West - and from Rivendell, North Downs are more to the West than to the North..

It seems that the cavalry of Earnur overtook the fleeing army, cutting them from Carn-Dum, and Glorfindel came from the South and the Angmarian army was crushed between the two.

Anyway Udu, you gave the correct answer and the next question is yours.

Gordis, it is my impression, too, that the Angmarian army was destroyed within Angmar itself, but I could not say exactly where, just "somewhere northeast of Fornost." It is a big piece of territory.

Here is my question: Why did the horse Mansbane/Felaróf allow Eorl to ride him?

It killed his father, Leod.

Eorl said: "Felaróf I name you. You loved your freedom, and I do not blame you for that. But now you owe me a great weregild, and you shall surrender your freedom to me until your life's end."

Thanks, Udu.

Thee was once a young prince of Gondor, who didn't remain behind in Minas Tirith as he was ordered, but went to battle in disguise, much like Eowyn later did. He was slain, along with his father-the King- and elder brother. The crown passed to another line.

What was his name?
