Audition was fine. I want to claw my jaw off, however.

Tessar, I was hoping to post that 'it gets better' but that would be a complete lie. Human relations (particularly peer ones) are a morass of missed communication and mixed signals, first to last, in my experience. Still, it's the only game in town.

I'll hold the good thought that Mr. Excitement has a lucid spell soon.

Sis - two HOURS in the dentist chair and then trot off for a singing audition?!?! Well, let us know if you got it!

Thanks for the toe sympathy, guys - I went to the podiatrist anticipating a lot more pain, but the guy was a prince among doctors - really into making the patient not have pain, even though I told him to just rip it off if he wanted to. He insisted on numbing it, and then he shot saline into the toe first - said it was their special technique - it made the pain meds not sting when they went in - and then plenty of numbing stuff, and worked slowly and carefully and did a bang-up job. It's much better today, although I still can't walk on it very well. But at least it doesn't hurt much now (unless I bump it). Anyway, I'll never stabilize the wheelchair without looking again!!! And he said I could wear my sexy black pumps by the Christmas party - yay!! But the nail won't be all the way back until spring or so.

I'm glad it wasn't worse. Tell your family this means they can do their own laundry, for a bit.

Blech. :-/

I have a vent that I just need to get out, because seriously. This is not cool. Not having to endure it for... what's it been? 7-8 weeks, now?

I'm a lyric baritone so I have some big low and high notes, but neither end is my particular comfort zone like it might be for a bass or tenor. However, I can mimic either voice for a period if I have to. Also, although my voice isn't huge, it's decently sized for someone my age, and bigger/better trained than anyone else's in the tenor or bass sections.

Well, our choir director is taking full advantage of that.

I am so freaking CONFUSED. I don't know how to sing from one second to the next, because first it's: "Anthony! Too loud--learn to blend!"

Then two measures later: "Anthony, I've changed my mind--don't sing with the Tenors on this measure, take the low G with the basses because they're too soft."

I'm the only one she's ever told to be quiet, and the only one she keeps making switch parts. I sing Tenor for three pieces, and then I switch between the Bass and Tenor lines over and over during the fourth piece.

I'm trying to not be a huge diva about this, but it is seriously pissing me off. MAKE UP YOUR FREAKING MIND. I'm not a machine--I can't sing high and then low, and then high, and then low, and then one final huge high note. I mean REALLY. It's like trying to sing some sort of twisted, impossibly difficult aria. Probably by Mozart!

After Thursday it'll be okay, though: We'll be singing a piece along with the big choir, so she'll just have me on Bass... It'll be easier because the Bass tessitura is just a little easier for me than the Tenor.

Don't get me wrong, I love this woman to death. She's a fantastic director. But I'm not a 30-something year-old man like she's used to directing. My voice can't handle this right now, at least not handle it and remain at full ability like an older voice probably could.

And you shouldn't. It's not good practice for developing your range OR your concentration. I've been in similar situations, although my range is higher. When the music director at the audition asked me what my high note was, I honestly couldn't say. I carry my chest voice far too high, to fill in in choral environments, so my break isn't at all in the same place it would be if I'd had good training earlier.

As for telling you to be quieter or turn it up. @@ BTDT too. I went to a choral director once to prep for a G&S audition. And I sang it as you sing that music. And after working on it a bit, when I was going, he said, "I've tried to get you to sing like that for years. What happened?" I darn near dropped my teeth. I wanted to say, "Well, if you hadn't been asking me to belt every rehearsal to try to pull along your weak section over here, I'd have actually been able to SING properly. Supposing you let me sing in my natural voice range, that is."

Your voice coach must be ready to plotz. I hope it's cleaned up soon.

My husband's out picking up dinner for us right now *goes and puts her foot back up*

Tessar - yeah, that sounds like a pretty reasonable complaint! Maybe tell her, "Hey, I'm really flattered that you think I can handle this, but I'm just not quite there yet and I think it's hurting what I'm trying to develop..." I don't know, maybe something like that? Good luck!

Sis - G&S - ahhhhhhh!! Love 'em!

Totally with you on that one! And now my one of my best girl friends, are sort of in love with one of my other friends, and I think maybe I have some feelings for her, so it's all kind'a messed up. And besides, it snows and rains and the weather is generally ****.

This is the kind of misery that needs to be wallowed in and savoured, because the hope is that it won't last forever. *raises a glass of something hearty and devastating* Here's to us that remain, then. Drink 'er up, mates!

It's like God himself is trying to out me. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

First I somehow end up subscribed to this gay magazine (not porn--just gay themed) that shows up twice before I realize it's some kind of subscription and canceled it (and it was signed under someone else's name--not mine). My dad found both of them.

Then this men's clothing catalog that I did sign up for shows up today. Only I didn't realize it was freaking GAY THEMED. Oh my God, I just liked the shirts that I saw on their site, I didn't see the coats or weird jeans, or the really, really abnormal (and very 'gay') fashion stuff.

They also sent me an underwear catalog.

ARGH.

My vent is that this is just bloody frickin' ridiculous, it is 2 AM on a Friday night in Los Angeles and I am beautiful, fun-loving, edgy and cool but am NOT out at the clubs or at some party or chilling with whomever, I just got off of work and am all by myself in my little apartment which is fine, FINE, anyway 'cause I cannot afford the phenomenally expensive club scene right now and plus I don't feel like tempting fate, driving all over the city all drunk, plus all my ex-friends are junkies in some level or another so I have distanced myself from them over the past few years, and so - well whatever.

I can bitch & complain here, right? The temporaryventing thread? On a Friday night? In Hollywood? Kickin' it alone in front of a computer in the land of Party Right Forever? Ah, well. I'm choosing this, right now; there'll be parties again, soon enough...

Since I came back from Japan, some new students have come into my class and I still don't know all of them. There is just one guy, who is in all my classes and who keeps staring at me. It creeps me out.
He keeps hanging around the group I usually hang out with and during discussions he always takes the same side as I do even if he doesn't know any arguments and he just keeps smiling and staring at me! And I really don't even know him! He totally creeps me out.

Another thing: At work I had to be hostess and send everyone to the right place. Then a guy comes up to me, invades my personal space and while standing waaay to close he said to his friend: perhaps this lovely lady can show us what to do? And then he start laughing. Seriously, why is it funny to say things with a double meaning? Whatever.
