And any American that refers to or agrees with someone who refers to the United States as the colonies - needs to get their head examined. It seems to be missing some brains.

JD, thank you for the support on an issue many will complain about!
Mike Moore has nothing important to say, so he makes a movie about something that he thinks is wrong. People tend to dwell on an issue they are most undoubtedly wrong in. Lol, and yes, I think he did, he does quite well with a scottish accent, doesn't he?

I tend to think the parents are more to blame.
Sure, teenagers will get depressed and suicidal, that's pretty much expected. They should have been more inquisitive about their REAL lives. And the "jerks" should have been smacked as children, the same for the teachers and the parents.

I think it is pointless to make broad generalizations about countries. Especially since I can not think of any country populated by clones of the same person. Montreal, Toronto and Niagra Falls region are worth the visit for anyone. I personally liked Montreal more than Toronto. About the compass: With magnets opposites attract each other. The "North" pole of a magnet will attract the "South" pole of a magnet. Add like magnetic poles repel. In my compass, the "needle" (or bar, I am not sure how to describe the floating metal part) is colored in two colors. The half that points to geographic north is the opposite from the pole that is found under Canada. ======N======= |----------------------| |----------o----------| |----------o----------| |----------o----------| W--------O----------E |----------ó----------| |----------ó----------| |----------ó----------| |----------------------| ======S======= This could lead to two choices The red end could be the "North" pole and what is under Canada can be the Earth's "South" pole or The red end could be the "South" pole and what is under Canada can be the Earth's "North" pole I depends on the convention that everyone agrees upon with regards to which end is North. I am amazed how quickly this thread has expanded.

I could be wrong, but I think coney was referring to Sween fighting it out (and generally pissing off) the canucks.

Just as the Afrikaaners I knew would use "rooieneck" or "soutpiel". If these terms are considered racist , then my humble apologies. I do add that the SAers that I know in Taiwan also use them about each other.

I was more insulted by this part:

But nevermind, that's nothing serious - and yeah yer right we do use some of those terms when referring to ourselves ('specially "Rooinek" & "Soutpiel" [you prolly know why ] and 'Dutchman' etc), they're not really racist, more reflective of the language differences. Also a lot of it is 'in' joking - which can be lost on outsiders. You see, to South Africans the following would make sense, because we live it every day, but to foreigners it might come across as very negative: You are proudly South African when? You produce a R100 note instead of your Driver's License, when stopped by a Traffic Officer. You can do your monthly shopping on the Pavement. You have to hire a Security Guard whenever you park your car. You can count the National Soccer team's scores with no fingers. To get free Electricity, you have to pay a Connection fee of R750. Hijacking cars is a Profession. The petrol in your tank may be worth more than your car. People have the most wonderful names: Christmas, Goodwill, Pretty, Beauty, Blessing, Gift and Given. "Now-now" can mean anything from a minute to a month. Traveling at 120km/h you're the slowest vehicle on the Highway. You paint your car's registration number on the roof. You dial a toll free number, and no one answers the phone. You have to prove that you don't need a loan to get one. Prisoners go one strike. More people vote in a local Reality TV show than in a local election. Half your mail is guaranteed to reach its destination. You're genuinely and pleasantly surprised whenever you find your car parked where you left it. A bullet train is being introduced, but we can't fix the potholes. GM, sorry for implying that you're racist - I'm just a bit touchy today. The jokes were actually quite good (at least we're more civilized than Brits & Aussies ) Where in Zim did you stay (ye've given away yer age by referring to it as Rhodesia )

Only when the roads are full Or when we need to do shopping (seriously, you can buy anything on the pavements - from decor for your house to food & catlitter, plants, whatever!)
('cept my gran'pa was mad - he used to play a sort of 'dodgeball' thing with pedestrians - he would get on the pavement & aim directly at them at about 80kmp/h, gods ye should have seen them scatter )

Heh, heh, heh, reminds me of a story with a Russian friend, only this wasn't intentional. But he did enjoy watching the "pedestrians" scatter!
