To Beardofpants and Elf girl: No but now that I consider your answers they would have been fitting too. But it wasn't what I was looking for.

An eagle soaring through the skies
Carrying destiny upon its wings
Swiftly in silver it flies
As the crown it flings

I was gonna say Celebrindal, but with your last hint I'm at a loss. Mithril then?

Probably said before, the elessar?

No, not Elessar. My clue says that it is not a sentient being, per se.

Mithril is the closest yet. Not right, though.

For the eagle one...if Mithril is the closest yet...but it isn't mithril....I don't suppose it's specifically Frodo's Mithril Coat? *sigh* Curse you, Elfgirl. Curse you. Even the clever rascal can't get this one. So it's in TT, huh? It IS an eagle...but it isn't alive...it's sort of an emblem, kinda close to mithril? Great Eru. Evil, evil girl.
And for Mark of Splendor...is it Aragorn's flag? The one Arwen made....

And we have a winner! I'll try and post another one tomorrow, but it'll probably be as simple as this one. I know those two unsolved riddles are gonna haunt me for the rest of the night. Curse you root and branch!

why, oh why are these riddles so bloody hard???? even Gollum probably wouldn't be able to get them!! maybe you ought to send them to Andy Serkis (he plays Gollum) and see if he can get them!

Elf Girl,
I have been pondering your riddle for over a day now. Every time I think of it, my mind shouts, "Durin! Durin!" then the other half of my brain shouts back, "No, it's not Durin, you idiot." But then you posted the location of it, and that mithril was close, so I have to know, is it Durin?

Or the... the... argh! What is the word for the writing on the doors of Moria and on Bilbo's map? Moon letters, and star letters, but there is a name. If you know what I'm talking about, please tell me yes or no.

Oh, and by the way, your answer on mine was not it. The sun was actually closer. Clue: It is not something exclusive to the writings of Tolkien.

The letters on the door were wrought of ithildin. The writing system itself was Tengwar.

The obvious answer to the eagle riddle would be the winged crown of Gondor, but I'm not sure if that is in "the second book" (Two Towers or Ring Goes South?).

Did anyone ever guess the answer to BeardofPants riddle about the evening? I think the answer must be the evening star: Eärendil (or as we would say: Venus).

Yes, they did, it was the window of the west. This is my new one:

"The mark of splendor
Lost to knowledge,
Newly remembered."

Ithilden! Starmoon! (Slaps forehead.) Of course! My knack with languages fades with the death of day's light, I'm afraid. Thank you!

I'm probably restating already given answers, but is it Narsil/Anduril? Or perhaps the answer to yours is mithril? Oh, it's probably some irksome piece of mathom that I cannot remember! (Grin.)

(To self,) Ah well, stop procrastinating! I'm having two kids over for the weekend who insist on a traditional Easter egg hunt tomorrow. So, I have to gently enlighten them... Yes, you guessed it. I'm making them answer a riddle to find each one. Now back to the nassty eggsess... (Grin.)

Nolendil? She already said it was not The Two Towers, so my assumption is that she means "Book Two" which begins with "Many Meetings", I believe. I hope we are able to answer this one soon.
