I *really* dislike that horn section when they cue faramir in the trailer. You know, that stupid "hero" music... blech. could they be anymore generic?

I dunno, I kind of like it. Well, it's only a trailer. Why shoot your wad in a trailer, so to speak?

Speaking of which: In Fellowship, there actually is a motif in French horn that recurs in the score - the two most significant occurrences were at Boromir's arrival in Rivendell, and Boromir lamenting to Aragorn in Lothlorien. This Boromir motif has a great deal of potential for development, I think... do you think it will be reused for Faramir, or expanded into a theme for all Gondor?

Something very odd. . .
watching the trailer while listening to Yellow Submarine. (my computer doesn't have sound, so I don't get to hear the pretty music while I'm watching it.)

horray!!
watched the trailer at the end of my 4th [and last] fellowhsip viewing about a month ago.
It was amazing!!! i had to hold my self back from whooping and waving my arms in the air, however i didn't do it very well. many people started to shoot me weird glances and my friend sitting next to me tried to hiss: shhhhhh! while smiling and being just as happy about it. wonderful!!! can't wait, horray horray!

Not much to say other than I finally got to see FotR for the 9th time and finally got to see the trailer.
Which rocks. A few interesting (?) points - this last time was in Norway. They had subtitles - fair enough. And whoever did the subtitles was good enough not to keep the elvish to english and put norwegian over them, they got rid of the elnglish completely. Listening to elvish while reading Norwegian is weird ALL the names were TRANSLATED. I'm sure Bropous will understand that this was a cardinal sin that Tolkien repeatedly and adamantly stressed should NOT BE DONE. This one really annoyed me. Stupidest translation (because it was obviously a mistake) was Gandalf = Gandalv. Reason being, 'alv' is 'elf' in Norwegian (according to my Norwegian friend) - so whoever translated thought Gandalf was an elf FFS! And finally, I came back with FotR in divX on 2 CD's - that's 1.5 gb of pure high quality FotR. No vid-cam in a cinema for this baby, it's pure straight from film to CD. I run the film as audio only in the background while working - is cool! Going to try TV out to widescreen TV, then it should be virtually DVD quality. Oh yes Still need to see the film one last time in the cinema though - want to see TTT trailer again, and bring my total up to 10 times. That's enough I think Last edited by Gerbil : 05-09-2002 at 04:02 PM. |

Ack, information overload
OK, that's cool then! BUT - are we prepared to give the translator the benefit of the doubt given the rest was butchered? IE was it deliberate, or just one of many mistakes? |

Finally saw it again last night, and I noticed several things I hadn't seen before - you who've seen it 8 or 9 times must have noticed all this by now -- Legolas running on top of the snow when the rest are ploughing through it on the mountain; saw the supposed "car" in the meadow w/ the scarecrow, and will prefer to think it's a farmer burning leaves; ssmall touches, like the way the camera lingers on Sam at the very end after Frodo walks on -- giving them both equal importance.

It's very sweet of you to believe it's not a car, but really - how many piles of burning leaves do you know that move quickly across a hill top?
And bear in mind in the previous shot of the same view, you can see the car's windows reflecting the sunlight earlier in it's path. Oh well, at least your idea is more normal than the 'super-fast' elves 'reason' I heard There's lots of things to spot in the film which is just plain cool. I've heard some people (no-one here fortunately) complain the film is too long, but I love it. I even like the fact there are slow bits. Films these days have pretty much forgotten how to tell a story, they are just too concerned with jumping from one action scene to the next. It's kind of like TV - say you do a mini-series or something of comparable length, you just have so much more 'space' to fill than in a single film. Use it - that's what I say |
