Okey-dokey!
Here's my question: What compliment did Saruman pay the hobbits?

Did he call them "clever?" You know, one of those sarcastic "clever's"... no, that was Gollum. Hmm. Must keep looking...

Sorry, thats not it! For once I seem to have given something remotely difficult! Most of my questions get very quick answers!

Ok, here's a hint to help you all.
What compliment did Saruman pay the hobbits, according to Gandalf?

Was it that he thought they were important enough to have left Isengard?

Lotesse not at all close, but what a funny idea!
![]() TD, try again... you're close enough, you got the basic idea... but he left Isengard in RotK, the answer is in TT.

Was it a sincere compliment, or a classic Saruman sarcastic-ism?

The basic idea that TD got right was that Saruman never meant to pay the compliment. Also think on the hint I gave.

Er...was it something to do with the 'a sneer from him is a compliment' thing? Or is the answer Saruman was concerned about the hobbits and that is supposed to be a compliment?

We have a winner!
Its the part where Merry complains to Gandalf of being labelled 'rag-tag', and Gandalf says something like 'a sneer from him is a compliment, if you like', so its your turn, clep_web ![]()
