Tolkien knowledge quiz

Another hint:

He is fluent in Sindarin, Quenya, Westron, and Dwarvish, as well as the black speech of Mordor.

Try to "think out of the box."

From your last clue I would say it must be Gandalf.

Tolkien knowledge quiz

Gandalf means "wand elf" in the language of men, (even though Gandalf is a Maia, not an elf). The elves referred to him as Mithrandir, which translates to "Grey Wanderer."
It's not Gandalf.

Good guess, but unfortunately incorrect. Tulkas means strong or steadfast.

The answer to this question is outside the paradigm of any question posted in this thread so far, but nonetheless within the rather broadly stated category "Tolkien Knowledge"

Another hint: The contradictory translations of his name led him to use the pseudonym "Oxymore."

Keep trying. Think out of the box.

Tolkien knowledge quiz

OK. Big hint coming:

The name cannot be found in any of the stories of the Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, etc.

However, the name is all over every one of John Ronald Reuel's books.

It means "foolishly brave" or "stupidly clever."
other hints:
Quote:
Hint # 1
He had an encounter with a large hairy spider.
Quote:
Hint #2
The name is thought to be Germanic in origin.
Quote:
Hint #3
He is fluent in Sindarin, Quenya, Westron, and Dwarvish, as well as the black speech of Mordor.
Quote:
Hint #4
Think 'out of the box'
Quote:
Hint #5
The contradictory translations of his name led him to occasionally use the pseudonym 'Oxymore'.

I think you're right. It's probably Tolkien. But that was unfair... I looked for this name in the Silmarilion's indixes for hours..

Jador is correct. It's Tolkien

Not a fair question? I think I've heard that somewhere before.

Sorry that you went to all that trouble Radagast, but the thread specifically states "Tolkien Knowledge." How much closer to the topic can you get?
