"White...upon Green" is not "pure and white without stain or blight" It is not the standard of Rohan.

editors note: An earlier clue said that the solution to the riddle can be found in the chapter Minas Tirith. This is in error. While mentioned in this chapter, the actual description is to be found in another chapter: The Steward and the King. My apologies for any inconvenience or frustration.

sounds almost like how Faramir would have thought of Eowyn, or at least her "raiment", but I am sure that isnt it.

the other one sounds like the lady who worked in the houses of the healing who was always talking about the healing hands of the king

Yeah, that's who I thought too. Isn't her name Eoreth, or something like that?

Very good! I was looking for the name Ioreth and since Eoreth was closest I will give this one to SGH, who is gaining on LCoU in the correct answer category.

That clears all my riddles save for the infamous white riddle which has yet to be correctly answered:

Pure and white.
Without stain or blight.
Soaring with pride
at a great height.

I say it's the Standard of the Stewards of Gondor.

And you are correct! This standard, which flew above Minas Tirith for centuries was:

"bright argent like snow in the sun, bearing no charge nor device..."

In the description of Minas Tirith it states that the "banner of the Stewards floated a thousand feet above the plain."

It was lowered for the last time upon Aragorns ascending the throne of Gondor when Faramir surrendered his post.

Well done jerseydevil and thankyou for participating in the riddling thread. Honorable mention to SGH, without whose help y'all would still be scratching your noggins. Dishonorable mention to our Dunedain expert Valandil, who had no clue throughout the whole process....

Here's a simple puzzle for y'all to play with while I slip into my Riddling Room and compose some new posers for y'all to repose with...

Complete the Rhyme

Invaders from a foreign land
Are planted in “abandoned” sand.
The locals have a name for it
And christened it the ________.

Oh no - not an expert at all. I only claim to be a student of them... and one with much still to learn, even of those in the North, which is my greater specialty.

Well, I think you are quite the expert; I mean that sincerely. Also, you are even more of one now than you were yesterday. After all, you will forevermore be able to tell anyone who is interested what the Banner of the Stewards looked like.

LCoU, you're out of shape! This was too easy: Saruman.
