Unlike the Our Lady of Guadelupe celebration, where we were packed in the back watching... I don't know, Incan dancing or something. It was in Spanish too, so I'm like, "...Que?"

Teehee, our church can't let more people in than there are seats. Safety first.
But there are so many churches with so many services at different times, that there will be a chance for everyone to go. Gosh, I love church at Christmas time! (also at other times, but the midnight service is something special for me)

For Christmas, people usually show up for the liturgy, which means they [purposefully] miss the preceding matins, which is longer. But almost all the unique Christmas-themed hymns are all during matins, not liturgy. Silly late-comers.

Well, our midnight service is Christmas only, with a very short sermon, but the morning service is a normal one, though of course still Christmas-themed.
Merry, in my town there are 4 churches of my denomination only, there are at least 8 denominations in town that I know of and the Baptist denomination has at least 8 splinterchurches that I know of. Every church has midnight service/mass/lithurgy/whatever. My town has about 46.000 inhabitants... should be enough By the way: what do you do if you 'serve the altar'?

I attend a Baptist church and we don't have a midnight service... it's more like.. a 7:00 service. I think this year it will just be taking the Lord's Supper communion (with grape juice, of course! ) at a candlelight service. Probably half an hour, tops.

From what I understand there's a noticeable difference between Dutch Protestantism and Baptism and the US Protestantism and Baptism.

I wouldn't be surprised. I don't know the details, but apparently there's a huge difference between a lot of things U.S.-ern and the same things European.

I imagine all the other churches are very crowded on Christmas, too. There's about 36,000 people in my town. Quote:
Except we don't usually use incense (thank goodness) except at funerals and Christmas and stuff like that.

Oh wow, that is all so unfamiliar!
Our services are rather bare compared with what I read above. Midge, apparently the differences in Baptism are because of the different 'founding fathers' and their different ideas plus the subsequent lack of contact between the different factions.

Yeah... that's what I would have expected.

Yes, that's the way it should be. Glued to the keyboard and screen because of lovely orange and green!

Haha.. I think it was more because of the misquoting.
Anyway... I think I'm going to go downstairs and Zelda myself out or Guitar Hero myself out or something. I'll also probably eat real food for lunch instead of just chocolate candy (which it turns out hurts cold sores pretty badly.. Ouch!) Be back later!

America's founding fathers? They were mostly Episcopalian. I told you about the Great Awakenings already . Shame on you.

Bye Midge! Merry Christmas (probably won't be around much for the coming few days)
Hector, yes you did. I meant the founding father of Baptism, not of the US
