I've been feeling like Gandalf, traveling everywhere like he did when he found that Barad-Dur had been rebuilt and that Frodo had the One Ring, and then eventually went to Isengard and got imprisoned by Saruman. So basicaly, a lot of running around followed by yet more running around, but it's all been worth it!

Been beginning the celebration of the holidays this past evening, most of it being spent talking to my sister-in-law, Amanda - that and karaoke singing, until my wife put a stop to that since the kids were like "WTF" and crying.

We named the kids Robert and Natalie. Everyone's doing very well and my wife, she's getting stronger again.

I'm looking forward to the kids learning to talk and read. I have much to tell them, and much more for them to read!
Aw, congrats!

Lol. We're going to get there an hour early so we can actually sit. *gasp* I'm gonna load up on coffee...
Unlike the Our Lady of Guadelupe celebration, where we were packed in the back watching... I don't know, Incan dancing or something. It was in Spanish too, so I'm like, "...Que?"

Teehee, our church can't let more people in than there are seats. Safety first.
But there are so many churches with so many services at different times, that there will be a chance for everyone to go.
Gosh, I love church at Christmas time! (also at other times, but the midnight service is something special for me)

Well, that's a good idea. But our poor priest would get too exhausted doing 10 services.
The first Mass I ever alter served at was Christmas. That was interesting.

I never served in the altar for any of the big-time services. Too much complicated stuff going on, and I wasn't experienced enough back then.

For Christmas, people usually show up for the liturgy, which means they [purposefully] miss the preceding matins, which is longer. But almost all the unique Christmas-themed hymns are all during matins, not liturgy. Silly late-comers.

Well, our midnight service is Christmas only, with a very short sermon, but the morning service is a normal one, though of course still Christmas-themed.

Merry, in my town there are 4 churches of my denomination only, there are at least 8 denominations in town that I know of and the Baptist denomination has at least 8 splinterchurches that I know of. Every church has midnight service/mass/lithurgy/whatever.
My town has about 46.000 inhabitants... should be enough

By the way: what do you do if you 'serve the altar'?

I attend a Baptist church and we don't have a midnight service... it's more like.. a 7:00 service. I think this year it will just be taking the Lord's Supper communion (with grape juice, of course! ) at a candlelight service. Probably half an hour, tops.

From what I understand there's a noticeable difference between Dutch Protestantism and Baptism and the US Protestantism and Baptism.

I wouldn't be surprised. I don't know the details, but apparently there's a huge difference between a lot of things U.S.-ern and the same things European.

Heh, yeah. People do that on a regular basis here.

There's 1 Catholic church in town (where I go), and the next closest one is 20 miles away. The church very big, but there's a lot of people in the parish, plus the Catholics who only go on Christmas and Easter.
I imagine all the other churches are very crowded on Christmas, too.
There's about 36,000 people in my town.

What we do: Altar servers help the priest and deacon during the liturgy, especially the Mass. They have several supporting duties to carry out, such as carrying the processional cross and candles, carry the incense and thurible, holding the missal for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, assisting the priest when he receives the gifts from the people, washing the hands of the priest before the prayer over the gifts, removing items from the altar during communion, and assisting the priest celebrant and the deacon as necessary. Altar servers wear the alb or the surplice during a liturgy.
They say it better than I can.
Except we don't usually use incense (thank goodness) except at funerals and Christmas and stuff like that.

Oh wow, that is all so unfamiliar!
Our services are rather bare compared with what I read above.

Midge, apparently the differences in Baptism are because of the different 'founding fathers' and their different ideas plus the subsequent lack of contact between the different factions.

Yeah... that's what I would have expected.

Life is so much easier when you don't have a towel wrapped around your wet-haired head and your wet-hair is no longer wet.

Well.. I just got a TEENSY bit distracted by Entmoot in between when I got out of my shower and when I dried my hair. A TEENSY bit that lasted about an hour...

Yes, that's the way it should be. Glued to the keyboard and screen because of lovely orange and green!

Haha.. I think it was more because of the misquoting.

Anyway... I think I'm going to go downstairs and Zelda myself out or Guitar Hero myself out or something. I'll also probably eat real food for lunch instead of just chocolate candy (which it turns out hurts cold sores pretty badly.. Ouch!)

Be back later!

America's founding fathers? They were mostly Episcopalian. I told you about the Great Awakenings already . Shame on you.

Bye Midge! Merry Christmas (probably won't be around much for the coming few days)

Hector, yes you did. I meant the founding father of Baptism, not of the US
