Looking For A Certain Sound...
Can anyone help me out?
I'm looking for some music with a certain sound, and I just can't find it. Basically I'm looking for a singer, preferably male, who has kind of a bluesy/gravelly voice that's lower (i.e. not the usual tenor sound), and does that kind of blues-rock music where it has some southern sounds, but it's definitely NOT southern/country music. I'm looking for someone who sounds a bit like Rob Thomas, or Gavin Degraw (specifically on the song In Love With A Girl, where he uses a more gritty sound), or KT Tunestall on "Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" or whatever it's called. Josh Kelley is also sort of close to what I want, but he doesn't do the grit thing very often. |

What about Louis Armstrong? He's got a lovely gravelly voice.
Otherwise, I got nothin'. Sorry.

Well Tesser I actually have been thinking about this post for a few days. About the only person I can think of that consistently gives that gravelly bluesy voice that I THINK your thinking of is Joe Cocker. Here's a youtube from Woodstock.....With A Little Help From My Friends. DUH, after I posted this I saw Nurv's Louis Armstrong choice...That would be a good one too.

Sorry, totally forgot about this thread! O.o
I found something reaaaaally close to what I wanted, so the thread slipped my mind. I found it by going through the blues-rock section on iTunes artist by artist. You guys made some great suggestions though. I do like Joe Cocker, although I've never really been a huge fan of LA. Thanks for the help you guys . |

Haha. Well I'm a huge fan of old Satchmo.
Tessar: I've recently been enjoying iTunes myself. I bought my first song, "Long at the End of the World" by Sam Roberts (totally not the sound you're looking for here though).
