Christmas Music
I was positive there was a thread for this, but can't find it in search...
Old, new, classical, schmaltzy, rock, jazz, hip-hop... Here's a Motown variation of "Winter Wonderland,by Darlene Love' from 1963. Album was "A Christmas Gift to You from Phil Spector" unfortunately released on the very same day JFK was assassinated. Featuring the trademark "Wall of Sound" style (also check out the Ronette's "Sleigh Ride" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3l-dm9K8Ms Featured in 2006 movie "The Holiday"

CHRISTMAS MUSIC! *goes wild*
I love Christmas music. I recently had the fairies deliver a package with 26 different Christmas CD's, the oldest from somewhere in the 50's I think and the newest one from 2006. Boy choirs, mixed choirs, a capella, childchoirs, everything. But no 'modern' songs. Just carols and hymns etc. I am listening to a CD at the moment that is played on bells/clocks. The carillon of the Coca Cola factory to be precise. It's a very nice CD. John Klein - Let's ring the bells. I would also recommend a CD by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - Sing, choirs of angels. Lovely arrangements and interesting use of handbells.

Diana Krall's Christmas CD is pretty good.

To me it seems like Christmas songs fall into two categories. The ones about Christmas stuff, and the ones about Christmas time. The latter seems to have been invented along with American cinema. All those older films, Bing Crosby and such.

Don't forget the division between modern and 'older' music. I.e. the music referring to the Christian Christmas with the shepherds etc. and the music referring to the Christmas with Santa Clause.

The three "classic" Christmas songs from American movies- "White Christmas", "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)", and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" -all came out in World War II, which accounts for their popularity at the time and the very sentimental lyrics

Correction- "The Christmas Song" was written in 1944, but didn't come out until 1946- close enough, as many soldiers were still overseas at the time.
Also add "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (1944) with the line "Next year all our troubles may be far away.."

And, except for "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", they were all written by Jews
