I hate Crazy Frog with the fire of a thousand white-hot suns. I found a video about him (but that wouldn't cause murders or mass hysteria) to illustrate my point.
The actual ads with that @%&*$! frog are so profoundly irritating that I simply stopped watching TV when they came on. Now I don't watch TV and it seems that the whole Crazy Frog thing seems over. (The video I linked is actually pretty cool. It has enough Crazy Frog in it to remind us why we despise that little horror, but not enough to drive us completely crackers within ten seconds.)

What gets my goat is that it isn't even a frog at all. It doesn't even look like one! Just... No! They should have called it Crazy Badly-designed-blob-thing instead.

I really dislike advertisements, except funny ones.
But we gotta remember, of course, if there were no advertisements there'd be no TV . . .

Now that, I doubt.

None of the programs that have commercials could afford to be on the air without them. That's where their money comes from. No money, no show.

Somewhat simplistically put, I think. For strictly commercial broadcasts, maybe, but there are many non-commercial broadcasts, often the national ones. But that's not really related to the topic.
The beeb's a nickname for the BBC, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, well then yes, I have heard of the beeb . I've been getting most of my news from it every day for years.
I know I put it simplistically. Rather rare for me, that- you should be telling me I was putting it that way as a compliment ! After all, normally I go about 8 or 9 paragraphs in response to something like that! Non-commercial broadcasts also rely on advertisements for funding. The news agencies, for instance, tend to be owned by larger companies or corporations which need money to support them. They do that by offering the space for advertisements. The news agencies suffer for lack of advertisements, which is part of the reason why the increase of people getting news from blogs is hurting those companies financially and causing them to lay people off (my journalism class heard from one of these who gave us a presentation just last week). Not only news stations do this, though. That's why you find commercials all the time as you switch channels, no matter what program is on. Almost zero shows lack them. And big online sites use commercial advertisements a huge amount of the time nowadays. That's how they support themselves too. It's key. There are private donors too, but advertisements are where almost all the money comes from. Now you've dragged a somewhat longer answer out of me . Meanie . Alas for the departure of my short lived brevity . . .

Lief, long answers come naturally to you...
*lives in a country that has several state-sponsered broadcasts that don't need to rely on advertising*

Instead, if you buy a TV, you have to pay a yearly fee to said state-sponsered broadcast, as part of the state sponsoring. Even if you never watch it, but prefer to watch the other broadcasts that rely on advertising. They are suggesting to do away with that fee, though ...

Yes, Britain does the same thing (some tv licence or summit). And we have state-sponsored tv as well (which DOES use advertising), but it used to be similar to britain in that we paid a tv fee & had no advertisements.
