Dear, whatever made you think we thought that you didn't exist?
I don't hug air, but I will hug you! *hug*

GW, i have never doubted your existence. 6000+ posts is fairly good evidence. Of course, you COULD be a sock puppet, but in that case you are singularly prolific.

On the other hand, would you care to define exist. You may be aware that those of us in the USA have had to deal with the meaning of "is" on a presidential level not all that long ago. Hence, what do you mean by exist.

Eagerly awaiting your reply through the aether or copper or satellite via electrons and my monitor, I remain,

Firmly convinced of your actual presence in this space-time continuum,

I think those who don’t want you to exist for their own political reasons will need more than just your simple word that it is so unfortunately. They will need reams and reams of data proving such and that you are in fact a permanent corporal living breathing entity and not simply a temporal hiccup manifesting itself here on entmoot which in the grand scheme of things wont matter to our existence at all. And even if you present them with that, youll still have to deal with them buying dentists and horticulturists and other “existence experts” to write papers stating categorically that theres no real proof you exist despite your repeated and measured presence year after year after year…

So good luck old boy! Fight the good fight! We are behind you all the way. Hopefully the world will soon come to the obvious conclusion that your existence is clear. Before its too late…

Thanks, IR! Most obliged by your support!

PROOF OF MY EXISTANCE, part II.

Man exist, therefore wolves exist, ergo I, Grey_Wolf, do in fact exist.

The proof of Man's existance is the conclusive proof of the existance of me, Grey_Wolf.

In the "other" place have a famous professor, Mr Higgins, has concluded in his most recent work that the existance of Grey_Wolf, in any shape or form has finally now been brought down on paper for all to see and the doubters not to doubt anymore.

Ye of little GW faith - sharpen up and believe!

That was an early reason I learned how to fight. In about the 4th grade I figured out that no one could prove to me they existed.

Of course, I shared this information...often.

Skinny kid, Ronnie...can't remember the whole last name. Used to punch me to prove he existed. It wasn't a good proof, though.

Okay, I'm getting in a confused philosophical mood now, so please beware or ignore:

Why would I need to prove I exist? Or that others exist? Would it matter?
I'm already talking to myself, my computer, our dog and my pillows, so talking to people I made up won't be that much of a difference. *shrugs*
Besides, from a egoistical point of view: I interact with other to improve myself. So even if they don't exist but my believing they do will help me improve myself, then what's the harm?

The funny thing would be to find out all this is a dream, and wake up to find that nothing is as you thought it was, or to have a moment of clarity as you sit in your straight-jacket in a padded cell somewhere and realize you'd been living in a made-up world. Or even, somehow, realize that existence as we know it is like the flat surface of a pond, and the surface tension not only prevents our material or even spiritual selves to pass through, and see that everthing that happens is the effest of something on a grander scale passing below and making a ripple, either designed or not, and that individuality is merely an illusion, because what we are is static and conformant to what we see, because underneath the surface everything is connected and never-ending.

Now THAT could be the start of a startling revelation.

Sis- That is quite entertaining, it must be said.

I used to think that maybe life was just a (bad) dream.
But I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if it were, because I would still have to live here as long as the dream continues.
So I'd better set a course for myself and start sailing!

I beleive that this is reality, at least as far as I can perceive it. Until something else presents itself, this cosmos is the real one to me.

Now imagine this cenario:

Imagine that all this is some fantastically creative dream. One with huge depth and understanding, but that it is still just a dream. Now imagine waking up. What if the world you woke up to was radically different from this one. Even at the most basic level: No atoms. Atoms are not the primary building block of matter, energy, nothing. There is not even something to equate atoms to. You dont sense with light, but you are able to see still, but how? And in what way? Could you "smell"? Or what if YOU were the building block of matte/energy/whatever? Just one small, malfunctioning, unit among billions. And you wake up as you are being removed. Or how about a reality where numbers have no meaning? This could go into a plethora of creative side-journeys.

I'm getting strange visuals now from reading that. Lots of whiteness...
You know that feeling off dropping back into your own body? You don't remember floating out of it, all you remember is coming back in...

Which reminds me of a story I once thought up about a girl who lived 2 lives: She would live during the day in this world, and the moment she fell asleep she'd wake up in the other world. (and vice versa) Who knows?

Well, GW, (and IR) here's a start, easily accessible, and existent:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For the philosophical movement, see Existentialism.

Existence is what is asserted by the verb 'exist' (derived from the Latin word 'existere', meaning to appear or emerge or stand out). The word 'exist' is certainly a grammatical predicate, but philosophers have long disputed whether it is also a logical predicate.

Some philosophers claim that it predicates something called 'existence' of the subject. Thus 'four-leaved clover exists' predicates 'exists' of the subject 'four-leafed clover'. Cognates for this predicate are 'is real', 'has being', 'is found in reality', 'is in the real world' and so on.

Other philosophers have denied that existence is logically a predicate, and claim that it is merely what is asserted by the etymologically distinct verb 'is', and that all statements containing the predicate 'exists' can be reduced to statements that do not use this predicate. For example, 'Four-leaved clover exists' can be analysed into the equivalent statement 'some clover is four-leaved', where the verb 'is' connects the subject 'some clover' with the predicate 'four-leaved'.

This philosophical question is an old one, and has been discussed and argued over by philosophers from Aristotle, through Avicenna, Aquinas, Scotus, Hume, Kant, Kierkegaard and many others.

(My exam for Philosophy was on that subject. That, and ethics... >_<
I recommend reading Kant. He's quite accessible. So is Thomas of Aquinas, but you may want to read up on his historical background.)
