* has cold shower * OK, but I think there IS a serious point here. If we are talking about where the attitudes come from within which it is possible for a person to commit rape, then there is a connection to the topic. There's been a reaction in recent years against "political correctness", i.e. the view that we should modify our behaviour in the light of how it affects others, particularly minorities. "Shock jocks" type personalities have been at the forefront of that. Putting aside for a moment the argument about over-zealous political correctness, if we think about the reasons why we have it, it's to do with trying to combat sexist and racist attitudes. Misogyny would, to my mind, be a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for committing rape. Ironically, I think that this bloke might have good reason to feel hard done by, however. Clearly, he was just being himself. We might as well criticise the dog for having a crap on the pavement. The people who really need a whack in the goolies with a croquet mallet are the company executives. Now, I'd never heard of him before reading this thread, but the media company presumably had! They hired him at least in part because of his "shock jock" type appeal. Then, when he stepped over some mystery line in the sand, he gets the boot. So, from his perspective, he got the sack for doing what he was supposed to be doing. |

Probably true; useful observation. Sometimes the line is indeed determined retrospectively!
Still, if you're getting paid a shed load for spouting a bunch of bollocks then my sympathy glands are running dry. Last edited by The Gaffer : 04-26-2007 at 12:42 PM. |
