The Philosophy of Age

Philosophy of Age
by: Me

Why do the young
wish to be old,
and the old
wish to be young?

Why do the young,
have things to do,
and the old
have things they wish they'd done?

Why do the young
have songs to sing,
and the old
have songs they wish they'd sung?

Seconds leave,
and minutes go,
and days are flying past.

Weeks go by,
and monthes go by,
and years go past at last.

Why do the old
sigh for things done,
and the young
for days to come?

Why do the old
love all the world,
and the young
love only some?

Lives begin,
and lives will end,
and lives will carry on.

Choices are made,
and chances are missed,
some are right, some wrong.

When will the old
learn to forget,
and the young
learn how to learn?

When will the old
learn how to hold fast,
and the young
learn how to turn?

When will the old
learn how to let go,
and the young
learn how to yearn?

When will the old
forget how to think,
and the young
learn to discern?

Many the man,
and many the boy,
will change as time goes by.

Many the peace,
will be broken down,
for none will let it lie.

Who are the young
to look for our praise,
and the old
to ask for respect?

Who are the young
to make their mistakes,
and the old
to have their regrets?

Who are the young
to remember each day,
and the old
to always forget?

Death be not proud,
and death is no friend,
but all meet the Reaper,
and all find their end.

Life must begin,
yet life still must cease,
all the living can do is pray:
May they rest in peace.

By the grace of God,
we may fight the good fight.
By the grace of God,
we may face the black Night.
By the grace of God,
we may live in the Light.
By the grace of God,
eyes are opened for sight.

By Truth and Testament,
Blood and Bone,
by Fire and Water,
Earth and Stone,
by the Light and the Shadows,
the Stars and the Sky,
though we may not live,
Life never will die.

I like it. We should shut off your power more often.

That's right, Hector. When we're bored and we can't find anymore St. Thomas, Aristotle, or Evelyn Waugh/Graham Greene/Lewis/Tolkien/Eliot/etc. to read, and we're just not in the mood for Plato, we got out and turn off people's power.

Proper planning is not present in the young and by the time they are old, it's too late to start.

And now a more classical philosophy:

"What, me worry"?
