Good side: Refers (however remotely) to the great and wonderful book The Lord of the Rings. And that makes it worth watching.
Bad side: No Merry, Pippin, Sam, Boromir, Faramir, Fredegar, Old Man Willow, Tom Bombidill, Goldberry, Arwen, Eowyn, Theoden, Eomer, Sauron, Mouth of Sauron, Galadriel, Celeborn, Elrond, Glorfindal, Gloin, Denethor, Radagast, Treebeard, Ugluk, the Nazgul, Quickbeam, Sackville-Bagginses, Farmer Maggot, Grip, Fang, Wolf, Beregond, Bergil...You get the point. And no, I haven't seen it yet.

Film is fine.
The film is about an hour long.
The main msg is to use your gifts wisely. The film is loosely based on LOTR with most of the potenially scary frightning stuff toned down for a kids level viewing. Gandalf is called Randalf Frodo is called Toto Bilbo is called Billboy Baggypants Saruman is Scaryman other names are similary changed. I enjoy watching the clay animation.

Just to say this, there is a line in the movie like this:"We've had nothing but maggoty bread for three stinking days! I'd love a cookie!"
