Man fakes own decapitation
http://www.mytelus.com/news/article....icleID=1681782
I saw this article on my homepage and i found it sick that someone would do this, especially for political gain. There is one thing he says that i agree with is that you cant believe everything you see on the internet. what are your thoughts?

Can't say the choice of subject was that intelligent but I think it was an interesting media-experiment. Shows how little reporters actually verify their info and how you have to see many things you find on the internet with a critical eye.

Indeed. Interestingly, it is being cited as part of the justification for banning Al-Jazeera from Iraq: because they broadcast it, they were spreading lies about the Coalition. Not content with an Orwellian nightmare, it seems that we have to make it Kafkaesque as well.
There was a similar media experiment a few years ago here in the UK which tickled my fancy. A news story appeared in the Sun (a much-mocked tabloid newspaper) about a group of art students who had applied for a government grant for a project and spent the money on a holiday in Ibiza. They claimed that going to Ibiza was their postironic artistic statement or something. Of course, the reactionary press went to town about these bloody skivers, string em up, etc. It turned out that they had indeed got a grant, but their project was to create a media storm about a free holiday. They never went to Ibiza at all, and they gave the money back at the end. |
