Shelob
Does anyone have an idea what happened to Shelob?

Didn't the LOTR say she gradually starved to death, or maybe that was Ungoliant.

I think she'd feed on the wayward Orcs after Sauron's demise, but after that, who knows?

She's probably still alive in her army.

Yet another enigma Tolkien has left for us (though the answer's somewhere probably). I bet she's probably dead, and that she slowly died from the wound thta was inflicted by Sam. Though, even if she hadn't died and recovered Gondor would have learned of her existance and sent out some sort of force to kill her, or she could have devoured herself like her mother, Ungoliante.

Since Shelob was an offspring of Ungoliant...did Ungoliant live there, too? Is that where Cirith Ungol got its name? Or does Ungol just mean "spider"...hence "Cirith Ungol" means "pass of the spider".

Yes, 'ungol' means spider.

Hey wait...
did'nt Tolkien say that Shelob was an evil thing in spider FORM so even if Sam killed her then would'nt her spirit pass on? That was'nt an opinion just a question on my part.Personally I think that either Sam kicked her into oblivion or the more complex version of when Sauron was destroyed all evil weakened(remember the orcs and all at the end)thus Shelob either starved because there were no orcs or else she could no longer obtain the bulk and darkness that she wanted and so died from exporsere to light and Gondorian swords(heck who would'nt notic a spider the size of an Oliphant?)or maybe she shrunk so much she became a normal spider and got squished.Either way I beleive she did'nt stand a chance.

I think she went and had a long gossip with the elves about how unfair it was to be kicked out of their lovely homes!

Well she was blinded with a great light and stabbed with an enchanted blade. Although not immediately, i would assume she was as good as dead.
