Amazing actor. My favourite Harris role was of course English Bob from Unforgiven, just a classic and unforgettable Western character to whom he brought so much life... he was one of the highlights of Gladiator as Marcus Aurelius... and I thought having him play Dumbledore was an instance of perfect casting.

He will be greatly missed by myself and many others. My sympathies are with his family and friends, and especially with the HP cast. May he be blessed...
My local newspaper ran an article on this Friday. Some of the author's suggestions for replacements were Ian holm, Ian McKellen, Cristopher Lee, and Sean Connery, among others. I'll try to find the article and post the whole thing...

I was "pleased" to see that he had a private family+friends funeral........dignity and respect for a man who never saught the glamour and fame usually associated with a man of his talents.

I agree, Richard Harris would have made a better Gandalf than Ian MeKellen. Maybe Ian McKellen should be the next Dumbledore, then, as Galadriel88's local newspaper suggested. A nice parity, that would be.

Carrying on from the rumour thread in the Middle Earth forum that is now closed, it now turns out that Michael Gambon playing Dumbledore is being denied by Warner Brothers. What the?! So it's not Ian, and it's not Michael, then who is it??
Well, anyway, here's the Warner Bros denial of Gambon snagging the part: http://comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/archiv...1527960,87740, Guess it's back to rumour mongering. So who are the remaining contenders?

Somebody might have already said this, but the gut who plays Gandalf in LotR might take Harris' place. Harris was a great actor, though.
