Yes, that's the time I was thinking....can anyone remember an incident prior to that, where Frodo puts on his precious?

Frodo get's a little weird there. Tom has made a mockery of the ring, by putting it on and not disappearing. Frodo gets whacky, and puts the ring on afterwards, to make sure it's still "his precious". Tom tells him, ......."Your hand's more fair without it!".......Poor Frodo!

My my, this thread has been busy lately.

I am sure that in Tom Bombadil's house was the first time Frodo wore the ring. If he had used it earlier, the ringwraiths would have found him.

Always back to Tom Bombadil... the enigma;"what a strange creature" as Elrond said. The ring had no power over him, and he apparently could see Frodo with the ring on.
