Author Rayner Unwin
Guess what I just found cleaning out my boxes of old books?
"The Defeat of John Hawkins" by Rayner Unwin. As I recall he was the boy who persuaded his father to publish Lord of the Rings, and later took over the publishing company himself to promote Tolkien. (I may have my facts wrong, but I know he was important in LotR' history) I didn't know he had written any books, though. All those British guys can write rings around Americans. |

I didn't know he wrote books. Also, I think he persuaded his father to publish The Hobbit as a boy. I believe he was an adult by the time LotR came out... but I think he helped get that published also.

have you guys read THE LETTERS OF J.R.R. TOLKIEN? it talks about Rayner Unwin in there. He read rough drafts of the hobbit when he was like 12-13 and corresponded with Tolkien all through his life. He named his son Merlin in Tolkien's honor (he wanted to name him Gandalf, but thought that Merlin was a better kid name)
