Erm...none.
![]() Except Boromir would be a warrior, even in DnD.

Well Hmm. Gandalf really couldn't fit any class. Aragorn could be a Warrior as well, I suppose, with just enough levels in Ranger to not get spells

Gandalf - Fighter/Mage Aragorn - Ranger (he has cleric healling abilities) Boromir - Fighter Legolas - Fighter Gimli - Fighter Frodo - ? Sam - ? Merry - ? Pippin - ? Well, that's it ![]() |

Well, both Merry and Pippin could be lower levelled fighers. Sam and Frodo -- Rogues????

If anyone would be interested, Decipher's Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game is quite good, indeed.
![]() ![]() Shadowfax: DnD is Dungeons and Dragons, the most popular roleplaying game in existence, I believe. BoP: I thought about that, of course, but really the mages and sorcerers are more based on power and throwing around elemental stuff, whereas Gandalf is, as Tolkien says, more based on wisdom, knowledge, discernment, etc. And he doesn't really fit into the whole priest concept of cleric, IMO. Don't worry, I won't. ![]() ![]() Coney: Yes, I definitely agree that Gandalf would need some fighter levels. But I don't really think that mage fits, as I said above. Also, the Rangers have a great focus on two-handed fighting, as well as archery (I don't think Aragorn ever did use a bow in the book, did he? ![]() BoP again: Yes, I agree about Merry and Pippin; and Sam and Frodo really don't fit as Rogues, do they? ![]() If anyone's interested, I'd be quite glad to dig up some info on the characters according to the LOTR RPG. ![]()

LOL!
![]() Anyway, I remember a discussion I participated in on another board somewhat similar to this one on another board; we were setting up a LOTR playgroup for NWN, which uses the DND rules, and there was a good deal of discussion of how to create the characters properly. Of course, there was also some discussion about whether we should stick to canon, or just have Gimli the gnomish sorcerer running around. ![]() ![]() LOTR Playgroup

I just remembered a rather similar discussion, but for a different game. However, this game has rules based on DND (though not the same thing), and it is, if I remember aright, considerably more in-depth than the other. Also, more based on the actual LOTR.

Oh, what the hey, I'm spewing boring stuff anyway, I'll just bore you some more with LOTR RPG!
![]() Anyway: Gandalf: A Wizard, which is an elite version of Magician, rather than an Istar; when I play it, I change the names to Conjuror and Magician. The Wizards and Magicians are much more lore and knowledge based than the mage-types of DND. Aragorn: Ranger, of course; but as this is the LOTR RPG, the Rangers are significantly different, modelled after the Rangers of the North and the Rangers of Ithilien. Boromir: Warrior. Gimli: Warrior. Legolas: Warrior, Archer. Frodo: Noble, Loremaster. (the Bagginses are Hobbit-nobles by their rules, due to their great wealth and their fame through the Shire). Bilbo: Noble, Loremaster (more of a loremaster than Frodo, and more of a Noble, as well, most likely) Samwise: Craftsman Merry and Pippin: Warriors. Unfortunately, I don't have the Fellowship of the Ring sourcebook, which gives information on the characters of the Fellowship of the Ring book. ![]() Fanatical rave: The LOTR RPG rocks. It fits in almost seamlessly with Tolkien's world and vision, for me, and it is more book-centered than movie-centered! (although the pictures are movie stills, but other than that, definitely more book centered)

Warrior? Archer? Rogue?
When I were a lad it were Fighter Level 1, Fighter Level 2, Fighter Level 3 etc and we were happy with it. Kids these days don't know they're born. I can remember when it were all green fields around here... etc etc.

Lol, Draken, I was a pre-teen when D&D was "big." I remember flipping through the book of characters or what ever that was. And weren't there those little figures for it, too?
Anyway, on topic -- GW, that sounds interesting. Can you get that at a bookstore? And, as someone who hasn't done any type of role playing thing since they were about 12 (see above), does it explain what to do? |

I would expect you could get the Corebook at a bookstore, or certainly a comic book or RPG store. But I just got it from Amazon.com. I have a vampiric dislike for going out of the house.
![]() But anyway, you probably could. ![]()

Could you? But it's really, REALLY good. Worth paying for. Anywho, I wouldn't think you could download that off of it...or am I wrong?
