Very good, if they didn't film in New Zealand they would have to travel all over the world to get alot of the scenes.
New Zealand varies from mountains the actors/actresses had to reach by aeroplanes in very snowy weather to beautiful forests and lovely waterfalls to nice country fields and things. The scenery in LotR is not just a backround but takes up a big part in the plot. |

Perfect location! I don't think there is any place better. That's one reason I love the movies, because PJ and Co. created Middle Earth perfectly and New Zealand offered every gealogical setting.
I loved HObbiton, Rivendell, Edoras, Rohan..........I could go on Last edited by Elvengirl : 02-23-2003 at 03:28 PM. |

No where else could you find WETA and such great landscapes. A very good choice. Add the big-atures they used and it was almost perfect.

Mostly, yes, but I found Rohan to be a bit more rocky and rugged, less open plains and grasslands, than I had pictured it.

I had a different picture of Rohan as well, but I liked PJ's rocky, Norse depiction of Rohan. New Zealand was great! What a beautiful, diverse country!

my English teacher is from New Zealand, and she thought that was a good place to film LOTR, and she said that it hasn't been spoilt by tourits etc, which is nice.

Yes, I like how NZ seems to be an untouched spot on this Earth.

yeah, NZ is beautiful and untouched... but with all the press and movies being filmed there, it wont be for long! Maybe I just notice it more now, but it seems to have alot of attention focused on it.

I know NZ is giving tours of the sets for the movies. They are probably getting a lot of tourists for that.
But hopefully it won't be for long and the NZlanders can be left with their sheep |

there could be no better place on the face of this earth...and even when they filmed in the studios in you wouldn't differ from studio and outdoors.....props to PJ for that.

LotR decided it for me - when I get older I'm going to move to NZ and raise sheep, away from civilization, and in the midst of Middle Earth.

I went to New Zealand this summer for 7 days. It is absolutely amazing. I went in a Sky-Gondola over some of the rainforests, and it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. A perfect choice indeed. And there is just so much variety in the land. There are mountains, plains, deserts, rainforests, rivers, and every other landform imaginable. It's a wonderful place, and if you can go there some day, you definitely should.
Just one thing. Don't go when it's summer in the USA, because it's winter there, and it's pretty cold.
