The Old Movie Thread
What's your favorite really old movie? (like, whenever - 1965)
I'd have to say mine was a toss up between It's a Wonderful Life, Arsenic and Old LAce, and Kiss Me Kate. |

I like _Three Guys Named Mike_ (I don't know why I like it, I just do)
and old war movies like _Battleground_, where the hero always gets together with the French country girl, and no one (except maybe the hero's wisecracking budd, who always hails from New York) gets killed. Seriously wounded maybe, but not killed. the one involving Cary Grant and the empire state building (it features prominently in some 'recent' romance movie--Sleepless in Seattle, maybe?) An American in Paris, as well as most old musicals. The Court Jester--a comedy blockbuster, and most expensive movie of its day. Take your pick, I've got more. ![]()

I don't watch many movies, but I really like "Sargent York", about the famous World War One hero. Gary Cooper is wonderful, and they talk pretty funny!

I've got a ton of picks, but I'll just name the first few that come to mind:
Roman Holiday - I could watch this over and over. It's such a charmer. Audrey Hepburn. Gregory Peck. What more could you ask for? Lawrence of Arabia - Wow! Singin' in the Rain - Cute and funny. Catchy tunes and dazzlingly dance numbers. Gene Kelly is my idol. ![]() |

I think I have too many.
![]() For very old, I'd have to go with Metropolis. Quite possibly one of the most amazing films I have ever seen... the fact that it is a silent film limits its profundity in no way.

I love A Night at the Opera, Some Like it Hot, My Man Godfrey, Auntie Mame, A good REALLY old one is The Black Pirate. There are so many good old movies! I love Turner Classic Movies and American Movie Classics -- they show old movies with no (or very few) commercials!

Well just a few for starters...
It's a Wonderful Life - obviously! Doctor Zhivago - David Lean directing, Julie Christie so beautiful it almost hurt to look at her, wonderful sense of what huge historic events do to ordinary people - and a classic sad ending. The Haunting - the superbly atmospheric 1960s b&w original, not tha pants remake. And a little out of period (1970s)...Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter...no I kid you not, ironic British Hammer horror at its height, with Caroline Munro at her sultry best!

Oi! Where to begin?
The Glass Bottom Boat Practically all musicals I've ever seen but especially Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma!, Bye, Bye, Birdie, My Fair Lady, The Wizard of Oz, and The Music Man McClintock Double Indemnity (sp?) All Disney cartoons More as I think of them... Oh, and Lizra, the best way I can think of to spend a boring afternoon is curled up on the couch watching TCM or AMC! I love those channels!

Our stupid cable company doesn't offer TCM and whenever I turn on AMC it always has something weird on. For instance, when I get home, "MAsk" will be on. *shudder* |
