Question on Qui-Gon-Jin
My friend asked me this question a few days ago and I couldn't think of a good explanation:
"Why didn't Qui-Gon-Jin fade like the other Jedi in the first 3 films (Obi-Wan, Yoda)?" Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that little tidbit of information. Now I can't remember what was the general concensus. Anyone remember any of the theories that were floating around?

Interesting question. I have never thought about that before. I'll think about it and get back to you.

I haven't read the books, but maybe this has something to do with it: Qui-Gon was killed while fighting. Remember how Obi-Wan held up his sword and it looked like he just let Darth Vader kill him? And if I remember Yoda died of old age. I can't really think of why this would be, but it's just what I thought when I saw Episode I and I noticed that same thing. It seemed that Yoda and Obi-Wan had some element of control at their deaths.

That sounds good to me. I guess it is because both Obi-Wan and Yoda had prepared themselves for what was going to happen. I guess that Qui-Gon died unexpectedly. Another question that I thought about: why didn't Darth Vader fade? Even though he was a Sith, he used to be a Jedi. Maybe George Lucas has lost a screw or two.

I seem to remember something about Yoda teaching them (Qui and Obi) how to do it. It has been awhile since people speculated on this, so I don't remember.

Anduin, I don't recall whethere that scene was shown. Is it in the books? I'm just not as excited about reading books which have been adapted from screenplays as the other way around.

Not sure about this, but maybe Vader didn't know how (even if he could have, but I don't think he could because he was on the Dark Side), because when Obi-Wan did it, he seemed startled (poking the robes as if to say "where did he go?").

Vader did disappear. It was just his clothes and man-made stuff that Luke burned.

The jedi (some jedi) become 'one with the force' when they die. That's how Obi-Wan and yoda could do the ghosty thing.
I don't know. For plot reasons maybe?

Well, I watched Return of the Jedi ast night on Fox and I did NOT see Vader fade when he died, but at the end Luke sees him (as Anniken) with Obi-Wan and Yoda, all in their ghostly forms.
