Summer Reading
If I've read the Hobbit and LotR, what should I tackle next? The Silmarillion, or another?

Well, as I have only read those three books, that would be the only thing that I am qualified to advise. Beware, though, the Silmarillian reads in a more archaic fashion compared to the other two, the difference you perceive when changing from Hobbit to LOTR is nothing compared to reading Sil after LOTR.
As far as UT and BOLT and the rest of the HoME series goes, I dunno about them, so I am actually in the same boat as you, needing advice on what next to read. Have fun! |

Read the Silmarillion next, then Unfinished tales. Then read HoME.

Many thanks, Markedel! Six weeks time will see me in line at Chapters with a copy of the Sil. Hurray for summer break, I'm almost there!

I wholly agree with Markedel. I read the Silmarillion and was so overwhelmed by the amount of detail, that I read it again.
Therefore for me: Hobbit, LotR, Silmarillion, Silmarillion again, Unfinished Tales (reading it now) , and HoMe.
