If they allow you to read the book then they should allow you to watch the movie. It is probably only going to be rated PG-13 because of the violence. If they have read the book then they should know what is in store. Its not like there will be mild profanity or nudity in the movie.

It does seem to be rather dark and scary, but not too dark for a twelve year old. I just wouldn't take a little brother or sister

Knowing the Canadian rating system - at least in Alberta, since other provinces such as Ontario have slightly different ratings boards as well - LOTR will probably be PG. I suspect that it is a "low PG-13", if you get my meaning.
And I'm sure as hell taking my nine-year-old brother.

Actually they had to cut out battle scenes and/or greatly decrease the amount of gore in those so as not to be rated R. It was sort of Braveheartish I guess, but obviously it's been toned down.

It's rated PG-13 for intense battle sequences and scary images, i think the wording is something like that. PJ said that it's a very hard PG-13, and will be pushing the envelope a bit, but just in terms of violence/gore

Battle scenes and gore toned down? I can't wait for the "FOTR: Director's Cut".

I can GO!!!
Pg-13 thankfully I wont have to go with my Little sister who is mortally afraid of anything mildly scary, and I defiantly think that the Balrog would make her burst into tears, shreaks, and little feet pattering as fast as possible to the doors, while my Little Brother would be laughing his head off while blood spurts out the trolls mouth after Legolas shoots it(and other more terrible things), and thankfully I wont have to deal with him either. Whew.

Right. Take her to see Harry Potter, that won't be nearly as terrible. Judging from the previews (which is sometimes a foolish thing to do, but there are other evidences), Harry Potter will contain that sense of awe and wonder amid beauty and splendour that the Lord of the Rings should have had.

Braveheart?
Ummmm..... Inoldonil, what did you mean when you said the action is "Braveheartish"?
Do you mean Elendil and Gil-Galad and Isildur and Elrond all bare their buts to provoke Sauron to attack, like in "Braveheart"? Certainly gives Minas Ithil, "Tower of the Moon", an added meaning... Last edited by easterlinge : 09-19-2001 at 12:57 AM. |

My whole family is going, no matter what the rating is. Even my little bother, who was terrified of the Black Riders in the cartoon movie. They better not cut out some really scary parts just so more people can see it.
( I'm seeing Harry Potter too) |

I doubt anyone will go in my family except me. I might drag my parents along...but on second thought, maybe my 13 year old younger brother will want to come... but that's just because he doesn't go to movies that often.
I bet almost EVERYONE in my family will go to Harry.

I have made a date with my 77 year old Mom ! She read LOTR, at my request, and LOVED it! I told her, "Ma, if you get your hearing-aid on time, me and you(along with my Wife and Daughter) are going to a movie together in December!"
The hearing-aid has arrived ! Half-way to 500 !
