the narnia books aren't the fantasy masterpiece that the Lord of the Rings is. so don't read them expecting that. They are, however, great stories. geared for the most part toward a younger audience.
His adult fiction is excellent, too. The space trilogy (especially Perelandra), and the novel Til We Have Faces (which is my favorite).

don't get me wrong, i still highly recommend them! I just didn't want you to be disappointed if you went in with different expectations.
I'm currently reading The Silver Chair, which is in the top five of my most favorite books of all time.

LCoU,
Mr. Lewis was a christian, and so his books have strong allegory. But even for non-christians the Narnia series is enjoyable. They're pretty short all of them, so if you like them, its not hard to reread, and if you dont, you havent wasted that much time with them. Till We Have Faces was a super good book, and more complex since its for adults. I would go for that one as well as Narnia. I havent been able to read the Space Trilogy yet, but I'm sure that it will be equally enjoyable. (ps: Tolkien was supposed to do the Time Travel trilogy, and he never did get into it far, though he took some of its themes for the tale of Numenor).
