Help! Sindarin question!
I'm writing a bit of a story, and I need to know the word for Redeemed in Sindarin, for the title. I've looked and looked but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone help me?

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down. I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year! |

One source I checked had "lain" as a translation for "freed"...so that could do.

Runando has been used as a word for "redeemer" in Quenya.

It would be helpful if you specified exactly what sense you want to use 'redeem' in, as indirect translations are frequently needed with the fragmentary language. If 'free' is what you're looking for then the suggested lain/lein would probably be the best choice, since that's what Tolkien used in 'Leithan, release.'
Going by the literal meaning (purchase again) you would want to use 'Ad' for re/again, but I'm not sure how you would translate 'purchase'. Perhaps 'gar' (hold/have), so 'Garad' maybe. Given the use of 'runando' in Quenya, I could make a guess that 'redeem' would be something like 'runad,' but that's not terribly polished.

So... 'set right,' 'make amends,' might be close to what you're trying to say? Or is it closer to 'restore,' which would go along with the earlier suggestion of 'save,' 'set free?'
For the first, I might use peniatîr 'set right' (from penia 'fix, set' and tîr 'straight, true'). Another possible would be echadmaer 'make good' (from echad 'fashion, make' and maer 'useful, fit, good'), although that would probably apply to objects rather than people. For the second, one word to look at would be eden, or 'new, begun again,' which could probably serve as a good substitute for 'restore, put back.' In that line of thought you could try echadeden for 'made new,' although I think that's a bit kludgy. Alternate possibilities for 'make new' would be echadwain or echadsein. Something like Onnad (Onnenad? Adennin?) would translate as 'born again.' Any of this helping? Being limited to such a small lexicon makes it really hard to express the idea precisely. And not being a philologist, my haphazard guesses aren't really to be trusted.

I completely recommend this site. If you can't find the word there, ask in the forums. The webmaster is an expert on Sindarin and she'd be happy to help you.

Sounds like it was nice poetry, if a book might be judged by the title. Ever posted any poetry here?
