Depends on their mental stability. We do have a "Crazy Squirrel" on the moot, whom I and other are fond of.

We love to watch their flying through the trees and their eating.....there smart as the dickens and a source of free entertainment for us as we're on wooded grounds.

They're fun. A family of them tends to steal all the nuts from our hazeltree and nuttree before we can collect them. We never had a cherry left from our cherrytree for the last three years either. We tend to call them plume-tailed pirates.
When I had still had my old room, I could put food for the birds on my window sill in the winter. Since my desk was right opposite of the window I could watch them while working. Very soon a squirrel found its way to it. I could watch it stuff walnuts in its cheeks from a 30 cm distance behind the window. It was a great experience.

The squirrel has been my favourite animal for most of my life. Earlier this year when I was in London, I spent a lot of time feeding the squirrels.

Squirrels are cool. When I'm hiking, I like seeing them in the forest. However, the place I usually see them is on my university campus. I've got a couple funny stories about them...
Three years ago, my friend in my dorm left her window open and left the room. When she came back, she saw the hind end of a squirrel making a quick getaway. It had climbed the tree near the window to get in the room, knocked over her potted plant, and peed on the window sill. Two years ago, my roommate and I, as well as anyone walking down our part of the corridor, noticed a truly nasty smell emitting from... somewhere. The girls' bathroom one floor above us also smelled absolutely vile. The source of the smell was an unfortunate animal who had gotten into the walls, but was unable to get out. The poor thing slowly starved to death and died, and its rotting corpse stank up the building until, I assume, it was fully decomposed. The animal was most likely a squirrel (since the little buggers get everywhere), but it could have been a rat. The maintenance guy made a reasonable attempt to find the body but he never did. No, health and building codes were not a major concern at that dorm, why do you ask? The squirrels on campus are an introduced species - the American Grey Squirrel. They are extremely prevelant on campus - you can't walk 20 meters without seeing one. They have outcompeted the native Red Squirrel, which is smaller. After a year in Sweden, I can't get over how giant these things are. They are seriously huge, and completely unafraid of humans. Someday, some poor student with a bag of chips is going to get swarmed by a gang of the more aggressive squirrels. Now to end with a cheerful story, three years ago, an interesting squirrel was spotted around our dorm. He had no tail, and due to the large size of the American Grey Squirrel, he was dubbed "The Dog Squirrel". He did look a bit like a dog, and he was sort of like our mascot. Anyone who saw him would feel a bit special.

There's a really awesome book by Gary Larson called, "There's a hair in my dirt", which has a pretty funny cartoon of a bunch of grey squirrels smoking and looking rough around the edges, picking on a somewhat smaller red squirrel. Good book if you can find it.

Don't even THINK about shooting the squirrels here, Lief!
UCLA campus grounds are very famous for the squirrels. Squirrels, apparantly, really love uni.
