![]() Well, on the subject of Greek mythology, I've always liked the story of Apollo and Daphne. Has anyone ever seen the sculpture of this by Bernini? Sheer brilliance.

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down. I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year! |

Yes, the way bark and leaves appear is lovely! As far as classical statues go, the Niké in the Louvre is my absolute favourite, even if she's lacking a head...

I didn't think it was an innuendo, hence I said "like" an innuendo. But the emphasis on the unusually vague word, followed by the wide grin just makes me think of suggesting something that's not kosher to just come out and say.

Wasn't it in Norse mythology that some dude got chained to a rock for some indescretion? I'm trying to remember, because I tried to do a drawing of it once... Hm.

Loki was chained to a cave (or three rocks. Or something) beneath the earth for the murder of Balder, son of Odin. Iirc, Loki was jealous of Balder who not only was extremely hot and skilled but also, apparently, immortal (something about his mother asking all things on earth not to cause her son harm - except one...). He found the only thing that could hurt Balder, a mistletoe, which Balder's mother had forgotten, and tricked Balder's brother Hodr into throwing a spear (or shoot an arrow, can't remember) at Balder, which he had imbued with/wrapped a mistletoe around. Balder died and everybody mourned.
When Odin discovered that Loki had been behind the whole thing, he decided that Loki should be imprisoned under ground. A serpent was placed abobe to drip venom upon him, and while his wife Sigyn would catch much of this venom in a bucket, but when she turns away to empty the bucket venom would drip on his face, and his pain causes earthquakes. Loki will, however, free himself in time to join in on the Ragnarok and batte the Æsir (gods)..

he wasn't jealous of baldur, just bitter because nothing could hurt him, and his nature made him be bothered by so much fun. also, she didn't forget mistletoe, she just didn't care about it because it was "too young to make an oath"...

I've been reading the Prose Edda recently - the description of Ragnarok and its aftermath is breathtaking!
