Best villians... Of course, Darth Vader and Palpatine were good in the original Star Wars movies. Palpatine actually managed to pull it off in the newer ones, especially 3.
Matthew McCoughaney in Frailty. "This is where I put demons."  Max Shreck in Nosferatu, and whoever they got to play him in Nosferatu: the Vampyre, and Shadow of the Vampire. Also, Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Not Lugosi.  Jack Nicholson, whenever he is a villian (or at any rate whenever I see him as a villian), does a great job.

Ooo, this is a good topic. I love villains--well, it's sort of a love/hate feeling going on.. But really, I do love a good villain. Ones that come to mind as 'good' bad guys:
Commodus (Joaquin Pheonix) - Gladiator I love how if you think from his point of view, he's really not all that evil. It might be stretching it, but you could say that Commodus is really a victim in the story; a victim of his upbringing and his heritage. He is, perhaps, the most unfairly treated of all the characters, and his treatment is recycled into the havoc he wreaks on the lives around him. Tavington (Jason Issacs) - The Patriot Oh, I love this guy. He just radiates good breeding and old fashioned English repression, and yet he's as cold and sharp as diamonds. He always reminds me of Jas. Hook in J. Barrie's Peter Pan (who is one of my favourite villains in literature)--Hook was a proffessor at a reputable English school before he became the cruel pirate captain of infamy, and he always carried this internal code of behavior (good form, bad form, all that lot) beneath his villainous exterior. --Besides all this, Jason Issacs is kind of cute.  I like his eyes.Iforgethisname (Sean Bean) - Patriot Games Well, I will admit that I just plain like Sean Bean , but I do like him in this part (*why* can I not think of his name?), assuming the role of villain in order to avenge his "baby brother."Tupelov (Stellan Skarsgard) - The Hunt for Red October Skarsgard plays this guy so well. The out-witted pupil trying to teach his master a lesson ends up painting himself into a corner. Another of my faves. I have more, I'm sure. As I said, I love a 'good' bad guy. Oh!! Who could leave out: Marve and Harry (Daniel Stern, Joe Peschi) - Home Alone1&2 These guys have got to be some of the most enjoyable villains to watch. Love 'em!

I am a villian fancier, and I know that.
A few of my favorites: Humma Kavula - H2G2 Barty Crouch Jr. - HP:GoF Voldemort - HP:GoF (Gah! He was so good! He so would have killed Harry! Almost flawless!) Scar - Lion King Scorpious - Farscape Jafar - Aladin White Queen - The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (the only good thing about that movie) Khan - The Wrath of Khan Borg Queen - First Contact I could go on and on. |

Never seen it. But, yeah, he does well as a bad guy.
Do you ever find that actors who play villians well often play very likable 'good-guys'?

I haven't seen goldeneye either.
But I know what you mean with the switchable bad-guy/good-guy roles. Lookit Rowan Atkinson. He loves playing Bad Guys, but Mr. Bean is the cutest thing ever! Lookit Ed Bagly Jr. (Now just Ed Bagly). He is so funny in Christopher Guest films, then he goes all evil computer genious on Star Trek. wheeee! |

You guys haven't seen Goldeneye!?
One of the best Bond movies ever, IMO. Sean Bean was awesome as Janus.The only actor I can think of right now that played a 'bad guy' and then was a likable good guy was Joaquin Pheonix. I wanted to poke his eyes out when he was Commodus, and give him a high five when he played Merril in Signs.

oh and voldemort in Goblet of Fire creepy evil even though we didn't see much of him. I don't know who plays him but Ralph Fiennes sticks in my mind for some reason.
