German: katze
Italian: gatto (okay, so it's the same as Spanish, and Portugese, just spelled differently. . .) Norwegian: katt hmm. Don't remember what it is in French.

French: chat
Dutch: kat (kattin or poes for female, kater for male) It took us a whole week to decide on the name of our last feline addition. We finally choose Chefren. We have a Smaug and a Jinx too.

I like the name Smaug for a cat.
All my cats are named after food. Marmelade, Sweet Pea, Peppercorn, and then there's Suzi Ann (don't ask, I named her when I was about three ) |

Hmm . . . Orcish names are quite cool. Gorbag, Grishnákh, & Shagrat. Shagrat sounds perfect for a cat in some odd way. |

Righto. Here's some:
The perfect name for a pet, when shouting at it after it has done a booboo, or is just plain naughty, is......... Ancalagon!! Think about it! Try it out for yourself! Say with me: "AaaaaaannnCALAGON!!!!!" Remember, don't forget to say -CALAGON really fast. It works. Yay! Another one might be: Thumper. For instance, Thumper's been a naughty cat, therefore "NAUGHTY THUMPER!! BAD THUMPER!! EVIL AND SINISTER THUMPER!!" See? Those also work. Maybe: [smiles]"Ahhhh, that's a cute Thumper..."[/smiles] And one last one: Pussy. I'll leave it at that. So RE, wuddayu think?? |

hmm. my cats have strangely normal names considering i named them. good names for cats:
let me quote from t.s.elliot: *clears throat* The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn't just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter When I tell you, a cat must have three different names. First of all, there's the name that the family use daily, Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James, Such as Victor or Jonathon, George or Bill Bailey- All of them sensible everyday names. There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter, Some for gentlemen, some for the dames: Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter- But all of them sensible everyday names. But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular, A name that's peculiar, and more dignified, Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular, Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride? Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum, Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat, Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum- Names that never belong to more than one cat. But above and beyond there's still one name left over, And that is the name that you never will guess; The name that no human research can discover- But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess. When you notice a cat in profound meditation, The reason, I tell you, is always the same: His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name: His ineffable effable Effanineffable Deep and inscrutable singular Name. -T. S. ELIOT-

Well, I'm not taking it in the Austin Powers sense as Anduril, so yeah, I like it a lot too.
