Well, if you're talking about RS James-style music, yeah there isn't much variation. But there's still good rock with creativity too. Switchfoot has a couple of really good ones...and I don't mean Stars, which has been overplayed to death on the radio.

How about Casting Crowns?

They've got lots of good songs, although...a couple of them fall under the category that Hector's describing...

For the most part I have to agree with Hector. Even Carman, which my husband likes a lot, gets boring. Some of his rythm devices just sound plain ugly because they are so mediocre.
Steven Ray Boltz' voice is like fingernails on chalkboard. He doesn't even have proper voice control. I can tell by the harsh edge of his voice he is singing from his chest rather than his diapragm. Some of Christian Pop isn't mediocre, it is just plain bad.

I'm not really up on music in general anymore and especially not CCM. Bruce Cockburn is an artist I've liked a lot in the past, who is christian but probably doesn't fall into what y'all are describing as CCM. One of the reasons I haven't spent much time listening to CCM is because of the sameness of the music. It's hard to tell the songs apart.
Some of the young people at church told me about a local christian rock station which I've been listening to sporadically but they don't often mention who's singing, so I haven't got a clue who I'm listening to. ![]() |

Oh yes I have heard that one. It is just abominable! I have to suppress the urge to vomit. Another I heard a few years ago talked about a football field in Heaven. These songs trivialize God. It is only a development in an on going trend. We have domesticated God. We have forgotten that He is the God of Abrahan, Isaac and Jacob. He is the God that scorched the top of Mount Sinai and parted the Red Sea. He also the same God that created the stars in the heavens. Perhaps the most beautiful worship music I have ever heard is Handel's Messiah. It captures for me the majesty of God. That masterpiece literally brings tears of joy to my eyes when I listen to it.

Which is why I say, keep the "christian" music (for the most part), I'll take the sacred music of classical... ![]() BTW, my older brother use to listen to Carman too...too hyper.

I clicked your link where it says "win a million dollars now!" and it took me to your stoopid memoirs thread. You owe me a million dollars buster. ![]() Oh, and in the words of someone wise that I once met once in a galaxy pretty damned close and not so far away ... "Being christian is no excuse for having bad taste in music".

I always assumed it was either a joke or a scam; turns out the latter was right.

You know...I agree...while Christian Music hit a high in the '90s, recent stuff has been severely lacking.
I'm a dc Talk, Newsboys fan myself. I also enjoy some of the older stuff; Larry Norman, Keith Green. Some more recent Christian Bands that I've enjoyed are Switchfoot and Relient K. And talking about having bad taste in music...anyone heard Larry Norman's "Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music"?, back in the day when many Christians still considered rock and roll "EVIL!"
