oh in public I really control myself it's enough when my family looks at me with that "alright daughter surely you'll get better someday" look. (well, in every family someone has to be the crazy one...)

and, staying with smells but not going off-topic, I've just read a book, and the first page of it was scented! The story is about a guy whose sense of smell gets extremely sensitive, so I suppose that's why the author wanted the book to be published with a scent. But only the first edition, so I feel lucky with the sweet-smelling copy of mine

Hey, that's pretty cool! What was it called?

Staying on topic again, I was just reading the beginnning of Dante's Divine Comedy. That may or may not have had anything to do with Devil May Cry...

um, well, actually it is a book of a Hungarian writer sorry bout that! I don't really think it's published in any other language, at least on the website of the writer I couldn't find anything about this. Anyways, the title is Nose, and it's quite a new book - it was published last year. So anything is possible yet

uhuh, seems I have to start an explanation I already wrote some things above...

So. The author is a Hungarian guy, Réz András (guess the pronunciation and, Réz is the family name, we write that first). The title is Orr, which means Nose. The first page of the book is scented, and I still couldn't find out what it is... it reminds me of cinnamon.

The story is great - it's about the most unextraordinary guy, whose sense of smell suddenly, from one day to the next becomes extremely sensitive. First it comes to him as a sudden attack, and it's quite a shock - all the smells around him, very, very much stronger. But he learns to control it, and use it, for example he recognises the smell of fear, ill-will... etc.

And another good point: it doesn't have the usual happy ending rather it makes you think.

I just picked up "1776" by David McCullough from the library. It's an audiobook on a few cassettes, so I will probably take a long time getting through it.

Finally got a hold of Pascal's Pensées - I've wanted to read it for quite awhile, because I keep coming across interesting excerpts from it.

I have finished 'Birds without wings' by Louis De Bernieres. A lovely book. It is from the beginning of the century in Turkey, a story on how the lives of ordinary people are altered by the decisions and rivalries of powerful regents from places in the world they have not even heard of.

Now I'm reading Shakespeare's 'Troilus and Cressida'. Gives a different perspective on the Trojan war than the Iliad.

I'm also reading 'Giovanni's room' by James Baldwin. I'm on chapter two, and so far it is very promising.

Lets...see. I just finished the whole Dune series by Frank Herbert (again). And now I working on rereading the whole Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I just read the new Artemis Fowl book, and as soon as I can get my hands on Shadow of the Giant, by Orson Scott Card, I'll read that too.

Finished Riddle-Master. YAY! The plot and the writing got more interesting as it went on. Fairly good, in fact. But the ending really bombed. Horrid!

I don't know what I'll read now... I'll probably just go back to writing in my Tolkien knock-off.

I'm working my way backwards through the Harry Potter series, this time buying each book for my collection. The series is out in paperback now and is cheaper. The second time reading is even better.

I finished "The Woman in White." Extraordinary! I stand in awe of Wilkie Collins.

I just started "H.M.S. Surprise" by Patrick O'Brian (3rd in the Aubrey/Maturin series).

And I'm reading & annotating "The Great Gatsby" by F.Scott Fitzgerald for AP English Lit this school year.

You know Artanis, it took me nearly a year to read "Don Quixote"? I tell you this because I remember that you were reading it, and it took you awhile to finish it.

I tried reading Don Quixote. It was really funny, I admit, but I got intimidated by the enormity of it and put it down a while ago... haven't picked it up since.

Great book! I love Marian!

Have you read his "The Moonstone" yet? Betteredge is wonderful!

Am in the middle of Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" - he's a psychiatrist who was in Auschwitz and some other camps - absolutely riveting clinical descriptions of his life there.

Don Q is one of the few books I've never been able to make it through - I guess a lot gets lost in the translation ...
