>I actually did not like Elijah Wood for the most part, especially for the first two movies. I found him to be a whining wimp. Just MO, I don't mean to offend you.>
Lol I'm not offended, everyone has a different opinion and I encourage that! I tend to think that PJ wanted Frodo portrayed as a bit of a whiny wimp that had to always be saved by other people in the first 2 movies (Arwen,Aragorn,Sammy,Gollum), though, so you can't really blame the actor there. I think he did a terrific job of conveying the horror of Sauron's presence each time he put That Blasted Ring on, and the love/hate/pity thing going on with Gollum. Honestly, I can't think of any other contemporary actors who could have played this difficult role so well, as Elijah Wood has done. So my pick for WORST THREE Performances (hehe): 1. The Uruk-hai leader dude from FoTR. Ugghh. 2. The Balrog...where were those fluffy slippers, darnit? 3. The Wargs & their Riders, complete nonsense taking away preciousss screen time from the gorgeous Eowyn. :>

![]() Aragorn's Dimple, I did like Elijah in RoTK. His portrayal of Frodo on Mt. Doom was great and I just love when he claims the ring as his own. That look in his eye was just perfect. For the other two films, if he was supposed to be a wuss, well then I must say he plays it pretty good. ![]() You dislike the Balrog?! What was wrong with him? I thought that scene was awesome! ![]()

![]() The Fellowship of the Ring:
1) Boromir - Sean Bean 2) Gandalf - Sir Ian McKellen 3) Aragorn - Viggo Mortensen The Two Towers: 1) Aragorn - Viggo 2) Eomer - Karl Urban 3) Gollum - Andy Serkis The Return of the King: 1) Theoden - Bernard Hill 2) Aragorn - Viggo 3) Eowyn - Miranda Otto Overall: 1) Aragorn - Viggo 2) Theoden - Bernard Hill 3) Boromir - Sean Bean This was a trickier task than I thought it would be when I first read the opening Post for the Thread, but it really made me think about which of the actors played their part most particularly well and most beliveably right the way through. Nice Thread Dúnedain! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Fellowship of the Ring
1. Sir Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Grey 2. Viggo Mortensen as Strider/Aragorn 3. A tie between Sean Astin and Sean Bean for Samwise Gamgee and Boromir son of Denathor(II) respectivly. The Two Towers 1. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn son of Arathorn 2. Christopher Lee as Saruman the White(of Many Colors) 3. David Whenham as Farimir son of Denathor(II) The Return of the King 1. Sean Astin as Samwise the Brave(Sam Gamgee) 2. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn Elessar 3. Billy Boyd as Peregrin Took: Gaurd of the Citadel Overall 1. Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee [FotR, TT, and RotK] 2. Sir Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Grey[Fellowship of the Ring] 3. Viggo Mortensen as Strider/Aragorn [Fellowship of the Ring] Sean Astin got my #1 Overall due to the consistency. Gandalf the Grey as portrayed by Sir Ian McKellan was flawless in Fellowship. Yet Sean Astin pulled off a most impressive Sam Gamgee throughout the entire trilogy, with his greatest sceans in Return of the King! I feel that other people deserve honors as well however, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel in Fellowship, Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins in Fellowship, Andy Serkis as Gollum/Smeagol in Two Towers especially, Karl Urban as Eomer son of Eomund. there are so many!

Okay
FOTR: (In no particular order) Bilbo: Ian Holm (He successfully showed what appeared to be a young youthful happy old hobbit but who was actually constantly tortured by his love for the ring. Oh he's my namesake as well. Ironically my nickaname at school is Bilbo) Merry: Dominic Monaghan (He for me kept the perfectness of the shire always. HE always showed what the shire was about) Strider/Aragorn/Ellesar/Elfstone- Viggo Mortinsen (I think you all know why) TTT: Theoden: (He is just such a tragic hero. It may come as a shock but TTT was my favorite movie. It just showed the last struggle of a dieing culture that was struggling to stay afloat) Eowyn: Miranda Otto (God shes hot) Legolas: Orlando Bloom (I love how he showed an elf struggling with the mortal fear of death and trying to figure it out.) ROTK: Theoden: See TTT Pippen and Merry: Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan. (They both are on here because they showed the conflict on both sides of two cultures who were fighting for the right to live and the right to be free from the eyes of the innocent) Gandalf: Ian Mckellan (needs no explanation) Overall: Theoden: Merry and Pippen: Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan Bilbo: (Ian Holm) Worst Overall: Arwen: Liv Tyler (not actress' fault) Faramir: David Wenham (not actor's fault) Denethor: John Noble (not actor's fault)

The three best cast:
Boromir Eomer Frodo On a purely personal note, I really like the actor Hugo Weaving in the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert, but none of his succesive roles (the morbidly frowning Elrond? ![]() ![]() |

I'm kinda surprised at the amount of people that put Sam down! I thought the character got watered down and that his relationship with Frodo wasn't anywhere near as good as it should have been. Maybe its because Sam was one of my favorite characters in the book, so I'm a bit picky. Okay, who was it that said Arwen did a good job? I'm sorry, but I BEG to disagree. She hardly played a part at all, and the acting wasn't too spiffy, especially compared to some of the other actors in the movie.
fotr- Gandalf-perfection. Aragorn-MORE PERFECTION! Bilbo-the guy IS a hobbit TTT- Aragorn-by far Saruman-fit the part magnificently. Awesome voice Eowyn-YOU GO GIRL rotk- Faramir-beautiful Aragorn-once again, twas blown away Pippin-YIPPEE Over all- Aragorn-Viggo looked exactly how I pictured him. He played every part of Aragorn, the ranger, the king in waiting, the captain, and da King. His acting was superb, and there was no actor who fit the part better than him. Gandalf-Well, the guy is a great actor, and like I said about Viggo, he played both Gandalf the Grey and the White, being the same character, but with differences and he was able to advance the character well. Pippin-At first I was upset cause I felt like he had been demoted to comic relief, but luckily, he played a much better part in rotk. His song when he starts crying still makes me tear up. I love that little guy. Worse actors- Denethor-maybe it's just cause I hate the character... Legolas-sorry girls, he was cool sometimes, but I felt like by the end he was just used as a cool action character and his real personality was gone. Elrond-am I the only one that thinks Hugo Weaving is a MUCH better bad guy? He looked like he was constipated throughout the whole movie! He was downright mean! Definately the biggest disappointment *shudders* he's a good actor when he's in a suit chasing after Keanu Reeves *chuckles* Mr Anderson.
