"Come on! Fight your father!"
Has anyone here ever celebrated festivus for real? I think I saw a website once where a group of Seinfeld fans actually did it and took some photos. All my friends love Seinfeld so maybe we'll do it this year too ![]()

Ah...Guy Fawkes Day. I remember learning about that when we read TS Eliot's poem "Hollow Men" in 11 English.
We spent a long time on that poem...partly because of the "Mistah Kurtz-he dead" and "A penny for the Old Guy" (Guy Fawkes) opening. We were basically taught all of Heart of Darkness possible without actually reading it [for the first line], and basics about Guy Fawkes [for the second]. I miss having that English teacher ![]()

Your thread totally rocks Spock.
![]() I could do some research and learn how to make whatever food is involved. Too bad Dec. 13th is the eve of my double-header of finals (after having had a similar double-header the previous week). I need a holiday that takes place in the summer. Help me out here guys. I want one that I can celebrate properly. Because I really want to do this now! I'm serious about this. I'm not going to do a half-assed job of whatever holiday I celebrate. I'll respect the culture and/or religion involved (I wouldn't pick a religious holiday where it wasn't cool for a non-member of said religion to celebrate it). I also want food to be involved, since I'm a good cook and it's something I can relate to. In sum: anyone know of a holiday that occurs between May and August, where food is involved?

What is Festivus? A fictional holiday?

I thought it was a book first, and then it was on Sienfeld.
Even though it's a made-up holiday (aren't they all? ![]() ![]() (see the Airing of Greivances and the Festivus Pole) Thanks for the suggestions Sun-star and Spock! I'll look into those.

...remember Christmas is a fictional holiday started by The Church to stamp out the pagan winter festivals. Jesus was born in the spring by biblical accounts but there wasn't any major pagan holiday there to wipe out so they moved it back.

Yes NYC is probably my favorite city to wander through at Christmas time; albeit heavily armed.
