How about Samwise Gamgee? But I discovered the answer in Appendix B, not FotR; are you sure this Andy is mentioned in FotR?

in fotr when they first enter lorien and are asked to cross the river using the ropes the elves set up, sam says something to the effect that "his uncle Andy would never believe this" (andwise was a rope maker)
