Hiya R*an, I meant to answer you, but I got lost in all the jewels and stuff here.

No, I haven't changed my mind. I like Húrin because he was such a great warrior and because he showed such courage and stamina during his imprisonment by Morgoth. Tuor is great too, but he does not appeal to me like Húrin, maybe because his life is fairly easy. As for their seemingly difference in behaviour towards their wives, there is nothing indicating that Húrin was not as passionate towards Morwen before he went to the Nirnaeth. I don't think Húrin was the same man when he met Morwen again as he was when he left her all those years ago. Although being husband and wife they would probably seem like strangers to each other, both because they had been separated for so long, and because of the impact of Húrin's torment.

Of course, considering how Tuor acted towards Idril at the end of his life .... I've never understood that , but obviously, it was just a nassssty rumor that Tolkien accidentally printed.

Still, I love all the little lines in FOG that refer to how smitten Tuor was with Idril. Tuor's the man for me!

But right now I'm in an elvish mood - take me away, Fingon!

[whisper]Fingon, sweetie, ya gotta dump that Arty gal! She's 4-timin' ya! Stick with me - you won't regret it! I'm the BEST of both worlds - human and elvish. My evil twin sister naiR got the worst of both kindreds. [/whisper]

Fairly Easy? Fairly Easy?! Hmmmmph! The poor guy's father dies before he's born, his mother (that was another R*an, btw - I wouldn't leave my baby!) leaves him and dies of grief, he's raised away from all his relatives by people of another race in a dangerous area, he gets captured and enslaved by the Easterlings, he escapes and lives alone and does such damage to the Easterlings all by himself that there's a price on his head, he goes on a difficult and lonely quest to get to Gondolin - and all that before the FOG. And in FOG he loves Idril passionately and fights like a major stud-muffin! And after the FOG he has to lead the ragged band of survivors for years. I suppose compared to Hurin's torments it was an easy life, but EVERYONE had an easy life compared to Hurin.

But that's ok - less competition for Tuor now

Well it was a very early version of the story.

Don't think he will fall for that 'sweetie' thing dear. And you need not fear, because he's sharing me obviously I'm not going to take too much of him. There's plenty left for you.

Of course, that's why I like Húrin.

I imagine that Tuor had a happy childhood with Annael and the Grey-elves. Being rereaved of your parents when you're a toddler doesn't mar you for life. And I do think he was rather lucky compared to other main human characters in the Sil. He lived in bliss in Gondolin for many years, he had love and friendship, and the favour of Ulmo, and a great son.

Nah, I'm an "all or nothing" type of gal I want the WHOLE Fingon, and I'm gonna have him! Besides, Fingon has read his HOME books and knows that Elves don't share in these matters

I didn't know you two were sweet on Fingon. You better watch out, cause I have had an eye for him for sometime. Of course Finrod is #1.
