Most impressive female character
Which woman, elf, darf ( we don't actually know one), Valie, Maia or maybe hobbit is the most impressive female character in Arda?
Is it just a beautiful woman, or a fighter? Strong or lovely? It's a hard choice but whom do you admire the most?

Is this limited to the Third Age and LotR?
If not, then I will go ahead and move it to the Middle-earth forum.

Oh, sorry, it is for the whole world created by Tolkien. So it should be in the Middle-earth section. Sorry. Please move it.

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. Galadriel and Luthien are the most impressive.
Luthien single-handedly rescues Beren and casts a spell on Morgoth. Galadriel is more of a behind-the-scenes elf. She's also awesome in more than one age, and extremely wise and insightful. Galadriel is my favourite female character, but Luthien is equally kick-ass. We also can't forget Eowyn, who slew the With-king. Maybe not quite as impressive, but pretty darn good for a human.

Luthein, Galadriel, Eowyn....why people accuse Tolkien of being sexist I don't know.
For me it has to be Lutien. Her deeds were simply amazing and she showed no fear in front of Morgoth and she defeated Sauron albeit with the help of Huan, AND she made Namo sad! What a woman. |

I was gonna mention Dis, but I see Dunedain beat me to her. Oh well...
Anyway, most impressive. I definitely agree with BoP. Luthien is the most impressive. Though of course the Valier and impressive, and Arien, and Galadriel, any Elf-lady/Elf-maiden is impressive (they ARE Elves, after all!). And also, Eowyn is, of course, quite impressive for one of 'Mannish' descent, esp. considering she isn't a Dunadan!

Galadriel. Because she's not only able to so kick the arse of any body, she knows that she doesn't have to. She's extremely intelligent and controled.

I hate to be a sheep here but I'd go for Luthien Tinuviel too. She showed some very strong determination. There are but very little who would even have dared to face Morgoth and she didn't only do that but she even managed to trick him and delivered a hefty blow to his image of invincible dark lord.
Plus her song managed to move Mandos to pity. A feat that was never accomplished ever after that again. If that isn't impressive I don't know what is.
