Well its a blow to catholics in latin america. they are being swamped by a flood of evangelicals that bring a more immediate and inviting message to the poor and the marginalized in these countries. they really have work to do there if they hope to grow more. and an arch conservative pope who wont travel as much as john paul and who is highly strict about church doctrine wont help the cause there. but then its too early to judge. many popes end up surprising.
