My local library has a good deal of DVDs to borrow for only $1 each - but 98% of the DVDs are FULL SCREEN. It seems like wide screen was only ordered if it was only available in widescreen, and when it was available in both; the full scren version was chosen.

I emailed a head librarian about this and asked why they only bought full screen dvds...

I got this response:
Hello Tristan,
Thank you for your question regarding the DVDs at the (name deleted, although if you are an entmoot longtimer you should know where i live) Public library. When DVDs were first being added to the collection, some patrons verbally expressed to us that they preferred the Fullscreen version of DVDs because of the black bars present on the Widescreen format.
However, I do agree with your point about "panning and scanning" and have
recently read a few articles on the Internet that also pointed out the
enhanced visual effects of widescreen DVDs.
As such, I'm happy to tell you that widescreen DVDs will be added to the
collection starting immediately.
Thank you,
"name deleted"

cool, so partly in thanks to me they will actually start having a lot of wide screen movies available.
