I think your interpretation is excellent Beren.
 I think the school and the fields could also symbolize something important in her life (not just be a scene). I agree with you that this poem is about her own death. That's why I don't think she needed to explain the symbolism of the school or the gain, because it was almost like a tribute to death, from her. Any ideas what the symbolism might be, if that's in fact what it is?
