Baseball Players + Steroids = Home Run Records
Don't think we've chatted about this one. Recently evidence has come to light which accuses certain ML baseball players of using steroids to enhance their physical abilities. Our local paper (Chicago Tribune) had an interesting article - I think on Feb 29 - which spelled out the numbers... what it typically took to win the Home Run Title each year before 1995 - and what it has taken each year since. Also - the numbers of people who hit over 50 home runs in a year before 1995 compared to after 1995.
It's just astounding... it's certainly no statistical anomoly... the very numbers themselves point to something giving players an advantage... and the likely culprit is steroid-use. What's totally disappointing to me is MLB's response. Their new 'rules' on steroids allow players to get off the hook, even with multiple positive tests. I'd like to see them take this seriously - and aggressively work to get guys out of the game if they use them. Track athletes get a two-year ban with one positive test - lifetime ban with two positive tests... THAT'S taking it seriously!
