Achieving Victory

Seeing as Rowling has set Voldemort up as nearly immortal, I've been wondering how she intends to have the characters defeat him, unless they lose. So far, I've come up with two theories:

1) Redemption. I think it would be very inventive albeit difficult to end with a redemption of Tommy boy. I feel a little sorry for the character as he's had a tough life; a dead mother, abandoned by dad, raised in a Muggle orphanage (undoubtedly ostracized like Harry). The only problem is, Tom still remains a mass-murderer by choice. If it was done successfully ( and I believe Rowling possesses the talent to do) it could prove very innovative.

2) Boy meets dementor, boy kissess dementor, bye-bye boy. This would work out logically as though Tom can survive death, he'll still be alive after the kiss, only without a soul and unable to harm anyone again.

Any other thoughts?
