Yes, maybe if Idril Celebrindal had loved Maeglin and not Tuor perhaps he wouldn't have been caught so far from the city by Orcs and tortured. Maeglin should have died rather than given up Gondolin to Melkor *grrrrr*
(atypical Elf who became evil). But Tuor and Celebrindal got many of the people out through the secret way. And Maeglin got what he deserved.
