Welcome Evenstar1400, I don't think we've crossed paths at the Moot yet.
 What got me into LOTR is my dad reading it to my brother and I when we were kids. We were about 7 and 9. He read us the whole thing, a little bit each night, with my mom occasionally listening in. After he finished, I read The Hobbit. I also reread the series about 3 other times. And last year I read the Silmarillion, roughly 10 years after my first encounter!  I didn't know this theme had been done before either, but I've only been here since last August. Repeats happen though, a good idea will keep coming back.
